The first day it dropped less then 2 psi, now 4 days later it is still at about 18 psi. I think I'll continue on the other 4 rims next week.

As for the axles, If you mean the D44/9" axles.

I used currie's Johnny Joint's ordered them through jks at the time. For bushings just went with the oem mopar bushings from the local stealer.

Recieved a request for my control arm lengths.
So still had a picture I took off the whiteboard when dealing with that.
In black are the numbers I grabbed from this board, green is the same as black but in metric units.
Red is what I ended up with in my built.
Cause the arms are threaded on one end, they can be length adjusted +/- 2.5 cm(1")
The tube diameter I used is 55mm(2")

Took it apart anyway, to apply self vulvcanizing tape to the contact space.


Put it back together and air'd up to about 20 psi.


W'll see what is left of that tomorrow.

Flashback, how I started with it 5 years ago
New axle flown in from the US




Upper shock mounting beam taken out.


Starting to look like a warehouse again.

This isn't ride hight, axle have to come up higher.




The width with these 35*12.5 tires isn't too bad.

CA's back in, the lowers I just extended 1" by turning them out.
Good thing they are adjustable.
The uppers will be rebuilt to an A-frame, like in a wj.

If you are going to go with a wishbone setup, make sure orient the bolt through the axle side of the wishbone vertically to avoid destroying joints with side loads. I would also suggest a stronger joint such as a 1.25" chromoly heim joint with high misalignment spacers for a 3/4" bolt or even one of the newer Ballistic Fab rebuildable heims of the same size.

Was going to set it up vertically, just haven't thought about upgrading the joint.
Might as well do that and save the jj's which are now still in good condition.
Anybody who has a link in their favorite's with hiem joint comparison info, please post.

Since you basically have 1 joint keeping the axle from moving side to side, I would stay away from a joint with any "give" to it, such as johny joints and the like, as I would think it would wear a lot faster in that setup.

I would go with the Ballistic rebuildable heim with 3/4" ball:

Just make sure you ask about the backorder first, then call again when they say they're going to be ready to make sure they actually ship them out to you. They have good parts, but their customer is historically lacking.

Or the standard Ruffstuff chromoly 1.25" shank heim with their stainless high misalignment spacers for a 3/4" bolt. I would order 2 heims at once in case it devolops play so you don't have to wait on another. It also never hurts to have a spare. Multiple King of the Hammers buggies have run these for multiple seasons.

I'm sure they are good, but I have never heard or read a complaint about the Ruffstuff heims. I have bought a couple 7/8" heims from them along with the stainless steel misalignment spacers and they are top notch in quality. It doesn't hurt that they are a sponser here and have a 10% discount code (MALLCRAWL, I believe). As long as they ship internationally, I would save a few bucks and go with them. I've orderd a few times through them and they have always had excellent customer service and shipping times.

Ruffstuff: never even responded to my email.
Ballistic: They email'd me a S&H quote. After that when I mailed I wanted to order, they never mailed me back for my details.

Guess I'll take another route.

As far for build progress, just been making cad drawings for brackets, truss and wheel centers.

Started collecting parts for the brakedrum conversion


Rotor's from a '96 E350, over 30 cm in diameter.


Perfect fit on a '85 sterling 10.25 axle.




Front caliper from GM '73-'87 3/4 Ton 4x4.
Brackets are on it's way.

Care to explain what you mean by this? I'm not really understanding the reason to make a template of your tire.
