    well I have this:

I also have a ramsey thats on a plate:

it has those kick outs that are right inline with the distance b/w the frame rails on the zj.

I was thinking of starting with 2x4 box to slide back in the unibody and then figure out how the best way to put the winch on it there. I'd be willing to take the grill out so its not sitting out so far with the grill in. Thats if i welded that winch plate right to the ends of the 2x4's, but i was told that may not be the best way to do it.

Im just looking for ideas, etc. thanks.

Mine is very simple, and very low profile. The winch itself actually sits WAY back under the grille against the radiator. The front of the bumper is 5" C-channel, and the rest is either 3/16" or 1/4" plate. I'd suggest keeping it simple, and tossing out that winch mount you have, or just using a part of it. Mine is mounted on 1/4" steel welded in between the mounts, which are made of 4"x2" 1/4" wall recatangular tubing. You get the idea.

    Looks really decent.

How did it mount to the uni? Did you slide the tubing into the uni at all?

Yes, the tubing does slide into the unibody. That's the 2x4 you see there, best seen from the top shot. Nuts are welded on the inside to use the stock towhook bracket holes. On the outside there is a plate that the bolts go through to sleeve the framerail. Here are a few pics while is was still going together.
