yeah those are going to be too narrow for most wheeling purposes... best size for that lift without fender trimming is 265/70/17 or similar size if you have 16" rims

Yeah thats what I was worried about more was the width. The other size option i had was 265/75/16 which is a 31 x 10.50 I really wanted a 32 inch tire with minor trimming. Should just man up and run the 33's and trim the shit out of it, but the jeep is in to good of shape to do that just yet

    265/75/16 is a 32" 285/75/16 and 305/70/16 are 33's i think this link has a conversion table http://www.procomptires.com/truck-je...omp-tires.aspx

the difference of tire height is astonishing- a 33 inch tire from one manufacturer(or even a different tire from the same manufacturer) can be a lot different- I wouldn't trust conversion tables as a science when it comes to tire height, I've seen 35's that measure to be 33.5, and 42's that measure at 39.
What gears are you running? 33's on 3.73 is do-able, but I'd rather step down to at least 4.10's, probably 4.56. Is your 03' WJ a 4.0L or 4.7L?
Oh, and eat shit!! Welcome to MallCrawlin'!!

You can trim it with out it looking like shit. My ZJ has about a 1.5" trimmed out of the front fender and you can hardly even tell.
Thank you to those that serve our country.

It is better to run a narrow taller tire than a shorter wide tire.
For one you get better ground clearance. And second you will have a larger contact patch when aired down. It may not be as aesthetically pleasing to run a taller narrow tire but they do have advantages.

all the camel trophy trucks had skinny as hell little michelin xl's that went through everything.

and like Varkyl said, you can air down and give a skinny tire a fatter footprint, but you cant air up a fat tire and make it skinnier

Fish, it actually wont give it a fatter foot print but a longer one. The larger the diameter of the tire the flatter the longitudinal foot print is. And when you air it down that foot print gets longer.

My brother runs 235/85/16's on his ZJ with 3.5" Teraflex springs. They do look a little narrow, but tuck nicely with no fender trimming. They do give slightly better gas mileage #'s due to less rubber on the road, and the height gained was a better option for him than a 31x10.50 tire that still grabbed his fenders (did not want to trim). The only downfalls of this tire that I can see are: typically a heavy, 10 ply tire that won't flex as much in the sidewall as a 6-8 ply LT tire (this size is typical on 3/4 ton trucks), and the aesthetics: they do look a little narrow. They also tend to be cheaper than a comparable 31x10.50 or 265/75/16.

Some pics of said ZJ can be seen here: http://mallcrawlin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=14307

aren't 235/85r16's usually an E load range? wouldn't they kinda ride like crap due to the sidewalls being so thick? we have a JK come in the shop alot that has some E load Toyo A/T's in a 305/75R17 or something with a cheapo spacer lift, and it rides like shit... thought it had more to do with the spacers and cheap shocks, but it rides like a tank, and I'd be willing to bet the tires have alot to do with it...

I can see the need for wide tires if your primary goal is rock crawling, but this would be an awesome tire for Overlanding. Plenty of sidewall flex for airing down, and awesome fuel economy. Remember when you air down you gain length, not width. Fuel economy is king when you are in Death Valley, 50+ washer board miles from the nearest gas station. If you know what you are looking for it is easier to find water than gasoline in Death Valley! I ran the BFG KO 225/75R16 without any problems from tire width. They got me up to Lookout City without any issues! Now on BFG KO2 245/70R16. Next tire will surely be BFG KO2 235/85R16. 80 is a standard hight tire.

An old thread, but a note on the E load range on these lighter vehicles, like the JK mentioned above. It probably rose like shit because they had 1 ton truck air pressures in them. Utilize that 10 ply sidewall and run lower tire pressure on the street to keep tread wear and ride comfort decent. I have load range C BFG MTs on my ZJ right now and run 28 psi. Looking at something E range and will probably go lower.
