I've relocated my A/C controls to where my VIC used to be. I just took pretty much the entire dash off last night and can't seem to remove the tube vent for the A/C that is directly behind the center opening in my radio bezel.

The screw under the dash has been removed and the whole assembly is loose. I just can't seem to get it out short of cutting it up into pieces while it's still in the dash, or removing the entire dashboard completely (being that the plastic fascial that the dash is screwed into is riveted to the metal support braces in turn screwed into the firewall, this would be extremely difficult.)

How do I remove this tube to modify it? I need those 4 extra inches it takes up to mount my Uniden PC78 LTW in the center.

    Thanks
    -Wes

80 some odd views and no opinions? Right now the CB is mounted behind the center console.

Why didn't you just mount your CB where the VIC was vs moving all that crap around to put the CB up that high. I would think that would be worse up there b/c you'll use the ac/heater control a lot more than you will the CB...plus the you'll have your mic line hanging out mid dash and will look like crap. Doesn't make much sense to me why you're doing it this way...especially since your's is a daily driver.

ok so..... The VIC was completely removed from my ZJ a long time ago in favor of a switch panel. I've already relocated the A/C controls down one slot. The problem is there is not enough room to mount the CB depth wise in the middle and even less depth space to mount it in the bottom slot. Get it?

It's too late to move the A/C controls back to the middle because I had to hack up the mounts on it to make it work properly at the bottom. So as it looks right now I'm going to make the center section of the bezel into another, more functional switch panel.

I wanted to do something like this:

But right now I have it mounted like this:

Another good place (IMO since it's where mine is) is inside the center console lid. I have mine attached to the lid itself and the wires running underneath the console all of the way to the ash tray/power outlet. From there they go right through the firewall. Just a suggestion.

Thats how I did mine too, but you have to make sure you get one that will fit, since a lot of radios are too wide. I still need to hide my coax though since i went to dual whips, they're just hanging over the seat right now.

yeah I've seen all those places before. I tried to mount mine in the center console but it was too deep and almost too wide. (yes I pulled the center plastic console out.

I've pretty much given up on trying to mount it in the dash, so the open hole I've created where the A/C controls used to be is now staring me in the face.

I think I'm going to fab up a plate and make a switch plate for some of my electronics there.

Yeah...what's your point? I bought the smallest CB I could find when I got mind. It's probably a little bit bigger than that one pictured but not much. Why did you get that big ass CB anyway? Then expect to fit that bitch in your dash?

It is all so much easier if you just get a cobra 75. You can mount the box just about anywhere, I mounted mine under my floor console behind the shifter and in front of the cup holders. Drilled a hole on the driver's side of the console for the handheld to attach.

If only I had a tiny CB like that... I like that though. Nice and clean and out of the way.

If you don't have the overhead console, it also fits perfectly in the ceiling carpet just above the rearview mirror. Cut a hole in the ceiling carpet for the port. I tapped the wiring for the vanity lights up there. There is a little bulge from it, but it's not very noticeable (especially for non-ZJ people).
