lil update...
said screw it to regearin the front 30 and just bought this on saturday...
hp30, detroit truetrac, 4.10s, trussed and lca skids.... completely rebuilt 10k ago (gears and detroit installed the same time)
got it painted up and ready for install...
also got all the brackets cut off the 8.8 and an old d35 housin that i will use for brackets
but one bad thing is i cant use my abs with the hp30
so all that work for nothin
Very nice.
That's an interesting looking truss though.
haha thx!
the guy that had it before me had it in his xj...
not sure if u can call it a truss... he called it a plate truss...
hopefully it wont hit my oil pan... we will have to see
I'll sell you a "1 ton" steering setup for cheap for that axle....
haha ill ill have to get back to u on that one... have no money... its all goin to the swaps
hope to have the swaps done in the next 2 or 3 weeks...
yeah the guy set me up....
he gave me all the parts in the first pic and a set of spare 8.8 parts
i got everything for $450... which is about what id have to spend on my lp to get it ready... (ball joints are bad and all the brackets are smashed)
got the flange
ground down the housing and made it purdy
got the brackets ground to fit the bigger tube ... had trouble with 1 bracket... it has a huge gap.. but we'll make it work
the rest came out good
i used 1 wheel ... it took a beating.. lol.. toward the end it worked better because it acted like a cut off wheel
You might want to reconsider your hardware choice on that flange.
yeah... i asked the guy at the driveshaft shop for some bolts and he went on got those.... seems like he uses them alot because he knew the exact size/thread..... but im still not sure...
they seem like they would be strong enough... the heads on them all are stamped with a 8.8, anyone know what that means?
cool thx...
any idea where i can get some?
i can but.... no thank you... i dont feel like screwin with it...
Didn't you want to keep your ABS for insurance reasons?
yeah.. back when i had time to screw with it and it was easy... but oh well now... plans change
axles look good but your still gay buddy
Nice paint job on that axle. Silver and green. Hmmmmm. I'll bet you a nickel the "truss" whangs on your oil pan.
prolly.. lol we will see
pics from today..
8.8 in...
sexy pink Trackbar
built some custom LCA's for reasons we wont discuss.. new on left.. old on right
sould be strong enough.... 1/4 inch wall... .
mocked up
end result is the rear end is set back!... i like it!... much more room for clearance
clearance before the swap
it was acually about 1 inch closer than what u see in the pics because those pics were takin when i had the 3" lift on it, but now i have 5.5"
all that is left on the 8.8 is install the brakes and driveshaft...
diff cover hits the gas tank skid, but not to bad... nothing a cut off wheel wont fix
then tomarrow we will swap out the d30 for the hp30..
overall i think it was a good day
The gas skid is about the same dimension as the gas tank. So if it is hitting the skid it will also hit the tank. You should shorten up your lower arms that you just lengthened. What is your rear pinion angle? Running a double card rear shaft?
it is hitting by about 1/4 inch... it will be fine and should clear the plastic tank
if i shorten the arms then the pinion angle is way off and i would have to cut off the brackets on the axle.... not fun..
pinion is at about 8* alittle high but it's alright..
and no double card rear shaft..
Mine barely rubs the gas tank skid as well. the skid on mine sticks out about 1.5" farther towards the front than the gas tank. Looks good DJ. how long are your rear shocks? nice track bar, princess.
Kevin
not sure how long these shocks are... james gave them to me to replace the rs9000's i had for my 2" lift.. lol... but at ride hieght if i take off the bottoms and let them hang they are about 2" from the ground
5.5" lift + shocks for 2" lift=no down travel
