On a 1/4 elliptical the 4 link controls the axle, all the leaf pack is doing is replacing the coil.
It allows for a progressive spring rate , easily adjustable spring rate by adding and subtracting leafs, as well as ride height adjustment with an adjustable shackle.
Gotcha wasn't sure what the end game was.
Just something to play around with really . Also gives me freedom when designing the back half of the cage without having to worry about coil mounts or coil over hoops
Awesome! Kraqa is the only other on here that's done 1/4" elliptical, right?
As far as I know. I've been out of the loop here since 2009 lol
Sorry for the super shitty pics, Ill try to get better ones in the daylight tomorrow
Lookin good man.
looks good.
not to be a critic, i love the look and the direction this is going. but i have to ask. why do none of the arm bars for the doors line up?
Lol no worries. I actually cut the rear door bars out tonight and re aligned them. I wanted the rear door bars to mount at the same height to the b-pillar as the front doors mounted to the a-pillar just to break up the body line.
How ever ... I fucked up my measurements on where they mounted the c-pillars so they were no where close to aligning with the rear hoop. But after repositioning they align.
I was waiting for someone to catch it. They were bugging the hell out of me.
sweet. well post up some pics!!!!
i loved my 1/4 ellip on my first buggy. it was crazy stable with no sway bar. you can even put short peices of leaf springs under the stack to control the unloading of the rear suspension. its awesome.
I'll try to get some tomorrow. The only point that the nodes don't align are at the b-pillar now but it is intentional. I plan to add a gusset behind the body skin to distribute the load.
Your original buggy was actually my inspiration for mine. When you first chopped yours I was up all night reading your build thread.
As far as the 1/4 elliptical goes. I'm uber excited to play with it. I was torn between the 1/4 elliptical, hydro Rams like ashman was running on his XJ, or a cantilever using hydro Rams. I just wanted to go with something unique that I could play with before I go coilover.
looks good.
tick tock.....tick tock.....wheres the updates man?
I'll try to get some pics in the next few days, I bent up the main roof bars, got everything fully welded, and drove it around the block and onto a trailer for my move to AZ.
Been caught up in the move since then.
To do list:
Skins
Rear harness bar
B hoop X
C hoop X
Fender bars
Under hood cage
Roof needs triangulation
Boatside skin
Rear shock mounts
Permanently mount fuel tank and batteries (ratchet strapped now)
Rear bench seat
Spare tire mount
OBA tank mount
Rear storage rack
Window nets
Light bars
Mount overhead console
Paint/vinyl wrap
Still a long list :-/
Are you moving back to Tucson? Is love to check this thing out if you are. I really dig the headlight mod and rear windows. Might have to try a similar setup.
Yeah already moved back. Haven't gotten around to finishing it yet but still hoping for before June at the latest
Makes me want to pull out the sawzall and go to town on mine... Looks good man!
Whoa! Hadn't been on here in a long while and am just getting caught up. Hadn't seen that you had cut it. I love the direction you're heading and even more that you're doing something different than most. Keep it up!
any updates I'm loving this thing!
