ok i went to the junk yard the other day to get a lid for my center consle .... i saw this under an exploder and just asked how much they wanted .... the girl said she didnt know and asked what i would pay... i told her (lieing) that i could get it at a junk yard in pheonix for $175 and she said that she would take that...

Sooo.. instead of getting a $5 center consel lid i got an 8.8... haha
It is out of a 1996 ford exploder with 109,000 miles and has 4.10 gears and limited slip.

heres what it looked like when i bought it.. (sway bar and ebrake cables came with it.. anyone need them?)

i took off all the unnessesary crap

then took off the cover and drained the sludge (no metal shavings so im happy

heres a picture of the limited slip carrier

took out the shafts and brakes

and here is how it sits now.

    Plans....
i will be installing it with the factory limited slip for now but will prolly get a locker in a few months

i will be wireing it to keep ABS but putting a toggle on the ABS to turn it off when off road

using brackets off of an old d35

    regearing front d30 to 4.10s
    More to come

If you knew any better you would reinstall the ebrake cables because they work with the jeep brackets.

Loose the ABS and don't waste your time messing with the tone ring.

How does ABS relate to insurance?

And get a tow rig if you tow trailers alot.

if u get in an accident and the insurance finds out that u screwed with the ABS they will not cover you...

and there is no need for a tow rig... jeep does fine.... why would i pay for another vehical, maintaince, insurance.. if theres no need?....

it pulls trailers every weekend... (18' boat, 20 ' quad trailer) but it does fine...

And you heard this from? If this logic held true, everytime the ABS dummy light comes on and someone happens to get into an accident they are not insured.

if the ABS dummy light comes on and it quits working that is not your fault... it is an accident... just like if a brake line burst and u hit someone... not your fault.. the burst is just what caused it..

but if the insurance finds out that YOU disconected it they now have an argument to not cover u..... if its so easy to keep it and and advoid messing around with insurance then just do it!

and same goes for cars that do not have ABS from the factory.... it's not your fault that it didn't come factory...

But if you bought it knowing it didn't have ABS then isn't it still your fault??

Has the "grind every other tooth method" even been proven to work? The Chrysler ABS has two rear signals and the Ford has one center.

And have you even posed the lack of ABS question to your insurance agent? Generally there are other extunating circumstances around an accident other than ABS failure like the lack of the ability to drive a lifted and high center of gravity vehicle.

    haha dave...

the ABS on the 8.8 swap has worked before.. http://www.mallcrawlin.com/forum//sh...?t=2880&page=2

having the ABS doesnt mean the insurance WILL cover you just means they have one less thing to whine about..
