Just wondering who all was planning on swinging by Hotel MallCrawlin this year on Wednesday night before we head to GSW. So far it's me and Pam (obviously), Matt +1?, Ron +2?, and dunno who else.
He's gonna try to make it now. We shall see

Let's nail some tentative dates down, I was planning on staying in Moab til' Thursday than heading to CO for some CO wheeling, how long can you wheel?Originally Posted by Kraqa
We were thinking of wheeling around Grand Junction for starters, it's only 1.5 hours from Moab.
Oh yeah, and I won't be driving all the way back to Grand Junction the weekend after Moab. But Chinaman's or something would be totally doable. There's a still snow left at places like Holy Cross.

The idea was more like after moab hit up grand junction area; we can do wheeling around BV the week later. I want to do grand junction w/ mark, and don't want to backtrack (like you only opposite) - so junction first for me, then the weeknd later BV?
That works for me. I've been itching to do 21 Rd so that is kinda tempting . . . .Originally Posted by OverkillZJ
Does Mark's trail guide know Billings Canyon? That's one you will DEFINITELY want to do. If he doesn't know the trail, shoot Wally a PM over on CO4x4 and let him know you're a friend of mine that wants to run the trail and he should be able to set you up.
So we'll plan on OCG on June 25th then?
OCG 25th works for me, i'll shoot Mark an email to confirm. This way we can get Kraqa to some colorado wheeling without driving all the way along 70 an extra 3 hours or so...
I'd be up for meeting you guys in the Buena Vista are the weekend following GSW. OCG etc. Scott and I ran Grizzly Lake near thear a couple years ago which was a fun run.
There is a bunch of stuff in the BV area.
Yeah guys I had a slight change in my financial situation, so I think I'm gonna come now. I just talked to Dave yesterday and I'm guessing he's the one that already re-confirmed my status on the GSW site.
My buddy John and his passenger Bill are definitely leaving Chicago on Tuesday morning, and then I'm not totally sure what their plans are from there...they may get to Moab Wednesday night or might wait in CO an extra day and go with the rest of the caravan. I'm not sure exactly what day I'm leaving yet, but I'll let ya'll know as soon as I figure it out. Either way I'll definitely be staying at Pam and Dave's on Tuesday or Wednesday night, and then probably Sunday or Monday night on the way home if they're gonna be back then. Unfortunately I can't make the extended stay that I had originally planned on, so it's just gonna be a quick go there, wheel through Sunday, head home deal for me...but it sure beats not going at all.
The gay part is that I just decided I was going to go yesterday afternoon, and of course I haven't touched the jeep since I got home from Moab last year, so I've got a bit of work to do on it in the next week and a half! I'm not going to do a whole lot to it other than build a steering box brace and a rear axle truss and then just a couple other little odds and ends, but it sucks cause it's so last minute.
I should know by this upcoming Tuesday whether or not I'm towing the rig behind my pickup or throwing it in the back of the Sterling. I've gotta weigh the jeep and the truck together to see if I can keep it under 26k lbs, cause if it's over 26k lbs it's gonna cost over 800$ for the permits to drive the dumptruck to Utah and back. Otherwise if it's under 26k, I can get a different plate for the truck for like 130$, which doesn't sound too bad to me....I'd much rather take the Sterling.
Let me know what days you guys are planning on staying at Hotel MC before GSW so I can let John and Bill know and decide when I'm gonna leave.

We will be here till Thursday morning. We'll be back her Monday night. Anyone who needs a place to crash in Colorado is more then welcome to do so here. We have two spare bedrooms (whith beds) and penty of floor space.
Matt has already called dibs on the bed, I believe so that leaves the futon in the other spare room. There is also the couch and as I said, the floor.
So, keep us posted on arrivals and depatures. Anyone wanting to caravan out with us is more than welcome.
LOL...I already made on the other day but didn't like the way it turned out....gonna make a different one today.Originally Posted by BigDaveZJ
Got my steering box brace done today, then went to weigh the jeep. The damn thing weighs 5160 lbs. empty with a half tank of gas. The Sterling with full fuel weighs about 21,800 lbs. I took my pull tarp off the truck last week, and that weighed at least 100 lbs, and I'll be losing the tailgate to get the jeep inside the box, and I'm guessing the tailgate weighs around 400 lbs or so, so it looks like I'll still be about 460 lbs too heavy to meet the 26,000 lb mark.
Anyone have any ideas on weight I can shed? I'm thinking I can lose a lot with fuel since the truck holds 100 gallons and diesel weighs ~7 lbs per gallon. If I only run with 50 gallons of fuel, that'll drop me 350 lbs, and I'll still have a range of 400 miles at 8 mpg...a far greater distance than what my bladder can withstand anyway.
I'm gonna try to load the jeep in the truck this week and go to a certified CAT scale to see if I can get under 26k lbs...I really want to take the big truck instead of my pickup...that drive through the mountains last year with the thing floored in 1st gear going 24 mph sucked!
