Hey all,
Just installed my third row seat in my ZJ. Nice little seat and it can sit either facing the rear or the front.
Pics can be found on this thread on Jeeprus.org.

no offence but who or what exactly are you planning on drivign around in your third row seats? Do these people/creatures have legs?
oh ya Eat shit and welcome to MC newb!
I'd be fine for little kids I'm sure.
I have four children, age 8, 5, 4, and 4. So the rear seat right now is for any of them. They have enough leg room, and now allows my wife and I the option of taking the Jeep or the Minivan when going on short trips around our area. It also will allow me to take the entire family offroading with me, instead of normally leaving my wife and 1 child at home.
oh yeah, and Thanks for the welcome.
you should have made it stadium seating, like the 3rd row in commanders. Lots of leg room and room to stretch out. Looks like it'd work for some little snot nosed kids though.
from the photos it looks well-built with strong mounting points - just not sure how the motor vehicle statute applies to homebrewed auxiliary seating
hate to see a family trip ruined because he was pulled over and told the kids can't sit back there - then what? (especially if the remaining seats are occupied and he's miles from home)
just something to think about...
Thanks Sudz,
But it's not home brewed. It is a commercailly manufactured 3rd row seat by a company called little passenger seats .com. They make third row seats for just about any SUV out there. Everything has been DOT tested and meets all federal safety standards.
I'm going to talk to one of my friends who is a Sate Cop and see what he says about it.
thanks for the concern.
BigD.
DOT doesn't do independant testing. They set the guidelines that the manufacturers follow. There is no such thing as "DOT tested" or "DOT approved". Not specific to this application, but here's some standard responses from officials on the "DOT approved" bullshit:

bigd- "now get in the dam seat and like it you little turds!"
little girl- "daddy its scaru in the back!"
little boy- "i have to pee!"
bigd- "shutup you little noobz before you get pwoned!, now look like you like it or else! (this roxorz!, ill be the best on ju wit my zj commander mod)"
the camera clicks..........

Theres a guy who works for Teraflex with 5 kids that wheels a ZJ with a third row seat. I think its cool being able to take the entire crew. I have 3 kids and therefore have just enough seats.
My kids like to ride in the third seat of our Volvo Wagon because it faces backwards like that. Just wait until they are older and like to do funny things to the car behind you.
I remember doing that. Bring the back window does and pick your nose at the car behind, stick your tongue out... give them the finger... Then Dad wonders why the car is about running him off the road
Have you seen a ZJ being rear ended?
It is safer than you think to have it rear facing. It is better than having your head up against the rear window. Volvo's studies show it safer in the XC70 with rear seats rear facing than the XC 90 front facing. Look at how many SUVs these days have the 3rd seat.
i like it but too bad it doesnt have arm rests or sompthing for the sides,
