lookin good man, that should be a pretty good lookin bumper when your all finished.
Thanks, tryin to make it look good =D
Started working on the sides today, and got some 1x1x.120 box for internal support.
I'm really liking how it seems like its going to come out, should be big pimpin! Haha.
It all 1/4" so far? How much does it weigh so far?
I'm afraid of how much it weighs. Definately more than the front bumper.
And its actually .230...I don't know why my steel supplier had some sheets lying around in random sizes but the pricing was right =D $100 for 50.5" x 55.5" x .230"

FTMFW. They are awesome.

Hahaha its up in the 220's or something nowadays, but its on a new motor, a newer junkyard tranny with like 60k on it, and the 242HD has like 80k on it so not much is left from the factory =P.
School today so no work, but I hope to get ALOT done this weekend, if not finished!
I also got some exhaust flanges so I can rearrange my exhaust to build a rear crossmember between the rear clayton link mounts.
It's finally starting to take shape - I think its going to turn out pretty sick!
design is freakin sweet, but what are you going to do about your fender sticking out farther than your bumper.
Thanks man! The bumper actually sticks out past the fender about 1" all around. At the front edge of the bumper I still have to add some plate to finish it off, but I'm making sure the bumper will hit things before the body does!
looking good
Thanks for all the comments guys! So far today my focus has been on the hitch. This guy isn't going ANYWHERE. The small tubes are 1x1x.120 wall square tube that are going to be welded to the bottom also.
And who doesn't like to scrutinize welds - this was a little different for me as the receiver tubing has really rounded corners but I dont think its going anywhere.
And just some welds on the mounts.
Good looking bumper! The welds look pretty freaking good, hell of a lot better than mine.
Hah thanks man.
So for the rest of the day I partially welded the supports in, and finally cut up the driver side panel to match the passenger side. It came out much cleaner methinks...but then again everything seems to come out better the second time you do it haha.
Oh snap. Fancy that, I don't have to worry about a locking hitch pin because no one will be able to access it without opening my little compartment =D
And a shot from the underside
very nice looks like it can take a beating !! can't wait to see the final product !!
So i was just thinking of things that would be good to store in here...if i can make it work ot wouls be PIMP to get my hilift stuffed in here, if not then maybe axle shafts and gear oil or something haha
Alright finally got some time to get some more work in on the bumper =D Today I just got a little time, but I spent it making the peices for hte other side to match.
It came out really close even on the test fit
The only problem...the drivers side is sticking out further then the passenger side. I havent touched the peices since I cut them, so with a little grinding and shaping I should be able to suck it up to match the other side
VS.
Alright the drivers side finally matches the passenger side! As we speak I'm letting it cool down, I've been doing alot of finish welding with the voltage CRANKED...things have been getting damn hot. Anyways on with the pics!
It's pretty much a boatsided bumper lol.
THIS BITCH IS HEAVY!
Underside
Yup, finally getting there =D. All I have to do now is finish up at the front to blend with the fender, and skin the top in 1/8"
Go get your moms bathroom scale - I wanna see how much it weighs
Lol well I was moving it around a little for the work I did after that last post, I can lift and move it around without too much of a problem myself, I'd guess as of now probably 100-110lbs...just a guess though. Maybe I'll weigh it sometime.
Anyways for the rest of the day I ground down a little visible weld, and welded/ground some of the intersections for asthetics. The metal I'm working with is a little bit rough so I'm thinking spray on bedliner instead of normal paint to mask the imperfections, besides I think it'll look cool =D
that came out sickk im liking it..very functionable
Looks great man! Nice design.
looks more like a belly skid than a rear bumper... Me likes!
