And you get a sneak peek of what's under that blue moving blanket...hmmm what could it be!?[/quote]
Is is some sort of a shifter kart?
Better
No shifting needed, but the fun factor would be higher with this than a shifter kart if i ever actually drove it hehe.
Ok shifter cart was my guess too. Im stumped. Powerwheels?
CRUNCH TIME. rollin out to fordyce this weekend so I better have this damn thing done.
Going to weld this little spacer to the backing plate, then hand file it until I have a consistent thickness all around.
And more work going into the rotor spacers, gotta pick up my brother in laws die grinder to clean up the inside area
Checklist:
Finish rotor spacers
Finish bearing spacer
Reshape shock mounts
Buy new rotors, pads, and ebrake pads
Redrill axleshafts to 5x5.
Sounds like you've got your work cut out for you the next few days, good luck.

wait, you redrilled the lug holes in the axle shaft?
what kind of tolerance is needed on that? I dont think I'd be good enough to do that.
Yeah, but I got lucky. I have an old rotor from my front 44 that I had redrilled from 5x5.5 to 5x5 by a machinist long ago, so I bolted that to the shafts using the 5x5.5 pattern, then drilled out the 5x5 pattern.
I just stopped for the night, right around 12 hours of work on the jeep...damn.
Got the shock mounts done,
Got drivers side bumpstop done
One shaft drilled and studs installed, lines up perfectly with rotor and wheel so I'm golden.
Other shaft has holes predrilled, need to be bored to correct size.
I just found out I have to use the factory dust shield to retain the e-brake shoe clips, and thats pretty much where I called it a night.
Once I have the other shaft completely redrilled, all fab work will be done, will be just installation. Also, I pushed the axle back a little, but went too far for comfort with the driveshaft so I have to pull them back in a little too.
Well, I got this biatch done in time for fordyce, and it turned out to be a hell of a trip. Pretzeled a rear driveshaft, broke my drivers side 44 ujoint and stretched an ear, then stretched the straps on the front yoke of the front driveshaft and popped the ujoint caps off. Found them, tossed in some needlebearings and rocked it.
Check this out. Coming up to winch hill 1 my buddy in the bronco 2 is stuck and on 3 wheels so I tried to get around him. I popped my ujoint, and am broken dead in the water in these pics. Since both of us were dead a jeep behind us tried to get around by taking the hard line, and rolled his shit backwards almost onto my jeep. His tube fender hit my front bumper and grill, but just a tap lol.
Here you can see how screwed I was. Sitting on the rear diff with the drivers rear off the ground, that drivers front was PINNED. That makes ujoints go pop.
And the rear driveshaft
The WJ handled on the road up to fordyce (90ish miles?) the best it has in years, it was amazing. ZERO clunks, vibes, pops and noises, the shimmy in the steering wheel disappeared, what I thought were tire shakes were reduced drastically making me wonder if I had a bent axleshaft in the old 44a. I was seriously talking about how well it drove with my passenger the whole time. Fully loaded down I only had like 1" of up travel before hitting the new rear bump stops and I thought it was going to be a problem, but it actually ended up being awesome for me on the road, it kept the body roll WAY down because that side couldnt compress. The polyurethane cushioned well so there were no noises, it was just a little harsh when it compressed fast on the trail, like hitting a rock hard with a rear wheel. I'll go pull a few pics off the camera
SHIT, nice! Did you make it out and home in front wheel drive?
Danm that is a pile of stuck iron. Awesome! X2 on the trip home??
That twisted driveshaft I actually bought a few weeks ago from LSRGreg, I threw my old one in just in case...lucky as hell that I did! We had to swap rear u-joints because I'm rockin a 1310-1350 conversion ujoint for the 9". I twisted the driveshaft at 1 in the morning, so we had to replace it...it was freezing out...and raining. We didn't make it to camp till 3 in the morning. Fun shit.
So yeah I drove the jeep home
damn dude.. twisted that sucker like a pretzel!
G-
Haha yeah. Thanks for the driveshaft man, I wish I could have let it last longer
Nice work! Fordyce is a fun trail, I can't wait to get back up there. We had an all night run due to some carnage. Got back to Cisco grove at like 0500. Did most of the trail at night, couldn't see shit.
we are going up to Fordyce on the 21-22 of this month if anyone is interested. Leaving Friday after work, coming home Sunday. My ZJ needs a Front driveshaft so, so far it will be a Bronco, 1st gen yoda runner, and a CJ. PM me if you want to be a part of the group. Sorry for the thread jack, glad to see you made it out of there ok.
So, if you had to do the niner again would you? How did the pinion gaurd hold up, did it help against the driveshaft twist or not? Again awesome build, that trail looks like a lot of fun.
Thanks Tommy! It's definately one of my favorites now, next time I want to defeat this biatch.
It's all good Joe, nice to see another local grand wheeler too.
Lee, as for the 9", absolutely. Would I swap the WJ discs onto it if I did it again? Probably not. It was a lot of work, but I do enjoy having factory parts for the rear discs still.
I just looked at those pics again. The third one looks like those two guys are standing on your roof.
So if you had to choose a disc conv. which would it be? Lots of them out there, almost to many to choose from. I'm just like everyone else high quality low price and that isnt ever a good combo, from my experience.
haha tech your right! Thats funny lookin.
lee, I would probably do the el dorado calipers with the built in parking brake. From what I've read a lot of people have had problems getting them to work properly, but then afterwards I also read you have to follow the setup instrucitons to a T to get the ebrake to work well, and from those who did it right I've heard no problems. A nice thing for me is I'm still using all factory WJ parts for the brakes, so when it comes to getting replacements I don't have to remember what vehicle and year I got them from, my front axle is butched together like that so I have to remember I'm using ford hubs, rotors and wheel bearings from a 1985 bronco with the TTB d44 up front when I'm lookin for replacement parts...on the rear now I don't have to do any of that.
Got a few vids with the WJ from the trip, fun stuff. It did really well when I wasnt busy breaking it
