Almost does look bent, but that could be camera lens "warp". Stick a straight edge on the tubes and see.

pull the axle shafts and look down the tubes for an easier visual if it is bent...

the first 8.8 I got from a junkyard was bent.... I'm lucky that they let me return it!

I don't think you really want to do that..... you will see 4 plugs that are pressed into the dif housing and they go down to hold the axle tube in place.... this is also why many people weld the tubes to the dif

I pinned a long straight edge the length of the axle between my diff cover and the housing. The more i look at it, the drivers axle appears to be bent forward.

is retubing an axle something difficult to do? or should i go buy another 8.8.

If you can get them for 100$ I would just go buy another one...after I tried returning the one you just bought.

returned the axle. picking up a new one tomorrow morning. no LSD though. probably pick up a lockright for it.

since my main setback is not being able to weld, i may go a different rout with this axle.

origionally i was going to drop it off at my welder and have him weld on all the brackets. then do the rest of the prep work/brakes/ mounting myself.

what i may do, instead of buying the 5000 piece bracket set for the 5 link rear, i may convert to leaf springs. this would only require my welder to weld some unibody supports and 4 brackets on the body, then leaf spring perches and shock mounts on the new axle.

i understand a correctly built 4 link long arm rear will perform better, but leafs are alot more simple. the simplicity of the leafs is my selling point. just the two leafs and two shocks. i also think leafs will ride better then short arms at 5.5" of lift.

My mig setup cost me about $500 and I have gotten a lot of use out of it. They are worthwhile investments. MIG welding is VERY easy too.
