This is the best thread I`ve seen in a long time. Looking forward to see what will happened next
Now I know what will do to my 97 ZJ
I also see that you have some axles that you don`t need. Are they for sale?
What is the price for pair?
My buddies drives trucks in your country so shipping will not be that much of a problem
Best regards from Slovenija
Thanks,
As for the axles, If you mean the D44/9" axles.
They have already been sold.
Yes, this axels I have in mind. So search continuous…
Where did you order JJ for long arms and which rubber bushing did you use on other side? Any problems with them?
Recieved a request for my control arm lengths.
So still had a picture I took off the whiteboard when dealing with that.
In black are the numbers I grabbed from this board, green is the same as black but in metric units.
Red is what I ended up with in my built.
Cause the arms are threaded on one end, they can be length adjusted +/- 2.5 cm(1")
The tube diameter I used is 55mm(2")
Hope it helps.
The arms will be cut up somewhere next year for the 60/10.25 build.
Still up for sale
Haven't done anything with the zj in a long time.
Cleaned it out, started to look like a warehouse.
Ripped the floor, just in front off the rear seats due to flexing.
First off all taking the 8.8 out.
Emergencybrake, brakeline, airline and breather taken off.
Parts to go.
Only 4 bolts holding it in

Is that a similac can? Whats that for?
Control arm's wil be reused after getting them longer.
Out
Flashback, how I started with it 5 years ago
New axle flown in from the US
Upper shock mounting beam taken out.
Starting to look like a warehouse again.
Time to empty the tank, it need to go.
Well known fuel consumption
Warning light still working.
![]()
Fueltank hoses disconnected.
Connector and mounting brackets disconnected.
Completly removed.
Space.
Time to take the front out.
2 Bolts left.
there it is.
The custom CA will be reused.
Back to the rear, mock-up of the 10.25
As a starting point, pushed the axle 3" back
This isn't ride hight, axle have to come up higher.
The width with these 35*12.5 tires isn't too bad.

Started a "tire" template, so I can reduce on guessing numbers
Only a tire thread "print" is missing.
CA's back in, the lowers I just extended 1" by turning them out.
Good thing they are adjustable.
The uppers will be rebuilt to an A-frame, like in a wj.

If you are going to go with a wishbone setup, make sure orient the bolt through the axle side of the wishbone vertically to avoid destroying joints with side loads. I would also suggest a stronger joint such as a 1.25" chromoly heim joint with high misalignment spacers for a 3/4" bolt or even one of the newer Ballistic Fab rebuildable heims of the same size.
Thanks Indy for pointing that out.
Was going to set it up vertically, just haven't thought about upgrading the joint.
Might as well do that and save the jj's which are now still in good condition.
Anybody who has a link in their favorite's with hiem joint comparison info, please post.
Since you basically have 1 joint keeping the axle from moving side to side, I would stay away from a joint with any "give" to it, such as johny joints and the like, as I would think it would wear a lot faster in that setup.
I would go with the Ballistic rebuildable heim with 3/4" ball:

Just make sure you ask about the backorder first, then call again when they say they're going to be ready to make sure they actually ship them out to you. They have good parts, but their customer is historically lacking.
Or the standard Ruffstuff chromoly 1.25" shank heim with their stainless high misalignment spacers for a 3/4" bolt. I would order 2 heims at once in case it devolops play so you don't have to wait on another. It also never hurts to have a spare. Multiple King of the Hammers buggies have run these for multiple seasons.

with 2 of these:

I would also suggest these for either joint:
http://www.sealsit.com/rodendboots.asp
because rod ends do not generally like the mud, grit, etc. that it looks like you wheel in.
Yep, that is what we have plenty off.
I have to get out off the country to go to a pile off rocks.
Thanks for all your input, already put out an email to ballistic.
what about this one?

thanks
I'm sure they are good, but I have never heard or read a complaint about the Ruffstuff heims. I have bought a couple 7/8" heims from them along with the stainless steel misalignment spacers and they are top notch in quality. It doesn't hurt that they are a sponser here and have a 10% discount code (MALLCRAWL, I believe). As long as they ship internationally, I would save a few bucks and go with them. I've orderd a few times through them and they have always had excellent customer service and shipping times.
So much for "customer support"
Ruffstuff: never even responded to my email.
Ballistic: They email'd me a S&H quote. After that when I mailed I wanted to order, they never mailed me back for my details.
Guess I'll take another route.
As far for build progress, just been making cad drawings for brackets, truss and wheel centers.
Got the orders from both ruffstuff and ballistic on the move, w'll see how long it will take.
Started collecting parts for the brakedrum conversion
Rotor's from a '96 E350, over 30 cm in diameter.
Perfect fit on a '85 sterling 10.25 axle.
Front caliper from GM '73-'87 3/4 Ton 4x4.
Brackets are on it's way.
