I'm gonna be adding 2" spacers to the front of my ZJ that already has RE 4.5" coils. The problem is that I'm already running a f>r w/2" spacers in the back & I'd rather just buy coils that'll give me the right amount of lift. my original intent when going to 4.5" was to use the pro-crud 3" XJ coils in the rear, but I realized that they would've offered almost no flex & didn't seem to lift as much as I had figured. I think Kevin's kit uses RE 3.5" coils in the rear... but I'm not sure if they're ZJ or XJ 3.5's & if that'll be too tall for my front setup. All opinions would be appreciated. FYI - I'll tentatively be running 36x13.5 IROKS on this setup, so a little more lift may not be such a bad thing. <flame suit on>
I agree about all that... 'cept my rear seat is permanently down & I honestly don't have that much shiot to carry around. Maybe I'll look for some RE 3.5" XJ coils... wasn't sure which coils Kevin's kit used, & couldn't find the specs anywhere.
I would suggest RE4.5" coils for the rear. They are softer and will sag after time. Especially witha full size spare, bumper etc.
I used to run a RE 4.5'' front XJ coil in the rear of my ZJ. With the TrailReady rear bumper and a 33'' spare it gave 7'' of lift. It rode reallly harsh on bumps and rough road. I ended up swapping out my RE springs for RK 7'' spring's. The ride is a 1000x better on and off road.
i'm running 3.5" front tera springs in the rear that were in the front of my 5.9 for 80K miles so they are plenty worn in. they netted about 6.5" lift when i moved them to the rear and I don't expect them to sag any. i run the 37" IROK radials which are the same size as the 36" Bias (they both measure 36.8"). up front I run 4.5" RE springs on top of the radius arms (basically a built in 2" lift). IMO it's the perfect ammount of lift for the 37's!
One suggestion is move your fronts to the rear and get some front 6-7" springs or
add the spacers like you plan up front and get another set of 4.5" RE fronts and move them to the rear.
later.
I ran the RE4.5" XJ coils in the rear with a TR bumper an 35" spare and they sagged to under 7". I didn't notice a harsh ride but then I did not try any other springs. But they worked great for me.
Tommy,
thanks for the info. I'm running the 4.5 with 2 bb, 33 inch spare on the tire carrier. I haven't noticed any sagging yet, but the 7 inch coils are a great idea.
