i dunno man. seems like they could just weld up that little hole and replace the 2 seals between the t/c and trans. there is one on the back of the trans and one on the front of the t-case (about $20)
I know i need to do mine sometime on the XJ mine leaks alot right there. oh well, been over a year and it drips on the t-case skid
actually my AW4 has a couple spots where someone JBwelded some holes or something. I dont know why. but "it works" so im not gonna mess with sucess
took me about 7 months to get my axles finally finished f/r
Actually never thought about that. I might try the JB weld as a temp. fix to get me from leaving a puddle everywhere I park.Originally Posted by LouisianaZJ
I am working with APS right now on the a killer preformance tranny to replace mine with here in hopefully the not to distant future. I have to say Wayne over there knows his shit, and is really great to work with, and is working with me to build the right fit not only for the application but my wallet as well.
I will keep you posted once I decide exactly what I am going to have built. But I can tell you this it will be a 44RE (the V8 model) instead of the 42RE stock 4.0 tranny, and it will be a direct bolt in!!
I just need to figure out exactly how much I can spend and then we can custom taylor it to my needs.
maybe i missed something, but why not swap in a low mileage aw4? they seem to be bulletproof for the xj guys, and the swap is not overly difficult.
http://www.stu-offroad.com/index.shtm li think has a writeup on the electronics. if my 42RE goes again and i'm not ready for a v8 swap, an aw4 is def going in.
the trouble with the AW4 is that the only ones that came in ZJ's are OBDI and take a crapload of work to put in OBDII. You can get an AW4 out of an XJ, but it has to be 96+, which isn't common in junkyards yet.
yeah but the early AW4's had a stand alone puter. i guess it could work, i would think you would only have to trick the stock NSS and a few other things on the stock zj tranny
if that's the case maybe it wouldn't be too difficult? anybody else know anything about the AW4 in that respect?Originally Posted by LouisianaZJ
sorry, i edited the link, it works now. the guy did put it into an obdII vehicle, though not a zj.
yes it would take some work, but the seperate computer would make it pretty managable. I'm pretty sure even if the computer isn't wired correctly you can still shift it manually...
talk to ryan aka cheapxj.com over on jeepin.com. I don't know how much he's around but i know he can help you.
Oaky it is official, I have bought a commuter car so that I can hopefully move forward on the Jeep.
So here is where I am now:
The Jeep is over at a buddies shop, he is going to replace the OD housing and give the tranny a good once over to make sure everything is dialed in. I ended up trading him my 35" MTR's for the parts and labor, I also hear he might have a stroker kit laying around he is not going to be using (am going to talk to him about that on Monday, hmmm??).
The 8.8 is still over at AW's shop and will be getting the hole fixed, tubes welded, and brake kit installed over the next few months, yes the next few months, AW just started a new job and well I need to actually pay some bills, you know how it goes.
The new goal is to try and be done by the end of the year, BUT I have said that before so we will see.
bitchin camaro > *.*
Sorry I forgot to post pix of the Camaro, I will do that on Monday from the office (not sure how to resize them from the house).
I talked with the guy who is doing my tranny today and I should be getting the Jeep back sometime next week. I am a bit behind on the funds to finish it just now since the purchase of the Camaro and some needed repairs, BUT don't worry this project will get moving again really soon. My wife has now decided I need to have it donw by the end of the year SOOO that should free up some cash to get it finished.
(you know you guys could help the project along by ordering some Amsoil, or the parts list CD's )
i'd order both. Buuuut right now i cannot offord the oil. and i'm affraid the there is nit enough stock jeep left for the parts list to benefit me.
Dirk,
you should open up a donation account. kinda like feed the homeless, except it'd be "build someone elses Jeep". This is a novel idea. I'd donate a dollar. Maybe 2. Well I wanna see the joe dirt machine so get pics!
-E
Joe Dirt pix on Monday for sure.
Anyone can feel free to donate $$ to my paypal account at amsoildirk@yahoo.com.
Kris, You are probably right that the parts list would not help you out that much
JOE DIRT? OR jOE dIRK?
The price was right. $500 and I drove it home. Will end up putting $500-750 into it getting it all mechanically sound, and then use it as my DD until the Jeep is done. Then next summer when my son turns 16 he can buy it from me and fix up all the cosmetic stuff if he wants.
