Your right Puma, I am starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I just picked up my Clayton's this morning, damn there were 4 boxes 3 were 63 pounds and one was 18. That is alot of steel.
I have also worked out a deal on 5 35" XTerrains I will be picking up in a couple of weeks.
So the only things I have left to do before starting the install is put the HP30 back together (gears, ball joints, knuckles, ect. ect. Then the install can begin, I will order limit straps and get the driveshafts machined once the axles and everything are installed, that way I can get everything the perfect size.
I have also decided to leave the 249 in for the time being and after the long arms and axles, save a little money and get an Atlas II TC. Once I do the TC, I will install Detroits front/rear and go with new driveshafts front/rear.
But that will not all happen until about this time next year (unless of course the 249 takes a crap then... I will talk the wife into letting me get the Atlas at that time.
Also wanted to let you know I installed my deep tranny pan and Amsoil ATF today. Looks great and best of all that tranny temp gauge I have on my A pillar finally moves.
I did however manage to strip out one of the bolt holes so I need to pick up a Heli-coil kit Monday, it just barley seeps out so I should be okay until I get under there with the correct size Heli-coil.
Well it looks like the tranny is leaking a bit more than just seeping out. I am hoping it is just that one bolt hole that is causing the problem if not I am not sure what else it could be.
Did you use RTV or an actual gasket?
I used RTV last time I changed my tranny fluid, and it leaks like a civ.
I've got a real mopar gasket for the next time. Of course, my transmission pan has been supporting the transmission for so long, it will probably never seat correctly again.
I used one of the Mopar gaskets.
I am hoping it is just the one stripped out bolt hole, but I doubt it with my luck.
What I did not check was to be sure the flange was perfectly straight, it is really thick though so I would not have thought it would have warped. Damn I hate to have to drop the pan again it is really a mess and I am already starting to get complains from neighbors about all the work I have been doing lately on the Jeep.
I've had the opposite experience, I used a Mopar gasket and it leaked like no other. But I used some GOOD black RTV last June and it's still going strong; even though I've added several dents to the tranny pan.
Well I am going to try the new bolt fix first and then see what happens. I am tempted to use a good bead of the "right stuff" gasket maker (black RTV) that is the stuff that Crane sends out with each of their diff covers.
I just like the idea of a dry gasket as it makes it easier to remove and replace the pan, and it is reuseable (but if it leaks then screw that).
"The right stuff" works great, but good luck pulling the pan off. May as well use JB Weld. I broke a plastic 8.8 cover in half trying to pry it off after I used that stuff
Well I will keep you all posted. You can imagine how pissed I am that the damn thing is still leaking, not only that it is leaking out pricey Amsoil. I will need to get this fixed sooner than later, I will hopefully pick up the Heli-coil on the way home and depending on timing I might try to install it tonight.
Dude you're going to do detroit's F/R (IN THE HP30) and an atlas... if you're shelling out for that much bling, why don't you go with ARBs? I don't think your 30 anythings will apreaciate the ratcheting action anyway.
Oh and F Atlas... When the time comes, I'm going to save up for a STaK box
I might put an ARB up front to be honest I have just not thought to much about it yet. I saw the Stak box site and it looked pretty good actually but just not sure I want to go down the new product road, I want to try and stick with the tried and true.
An ARB is no stronger than a Detroit. The new Detroits are quiet as limited slips. A Stak box costs a few grand too much. So what, exactly was your point again?Originally Posted by GoingOffRoading

Trust me we have PLENTY of time to figure out what locker for the front. I mean look how long it has taken me to get my axles and long arms in (well there not even in yet) but you know what I mean.

Okay so I used the Heli-coil kit this weekend on the 2 stripped holes I had and the damn thing is STILL Leaking.
So I will run it this way for a little while as I just don't have the time to drop the pan, and try to peen the bolt holes and then maybe run a thick bead of RTV, I am just slammed for the next few weekends, oh well will just carry some extra ATF in the back and make sure I keep it full.
The LAST thing I need at this point is to burn up the tranny, that's for sure.

Yeah, that's why I don't "waste" my money on bling bling oil. Its nice and all, but too expensive for me. I change the T Case, trannd and diff oils at least 2-3 times a year. I had checked into Amsoil, they carry it at the gas station on base. $7 a quart for ATF and gear oil.
Matt your correct I did the heli-coil with out dropping the pan.
Nate, I still really believe that Amsoil is better than conventional oil and since I am a dealer I get it at a great price.
