i think i'd rather have a $500 rice burner, but a DD is so nice. I got a bike i ride regularly, it's hard keeping it stock and reliable though, lol.
Not sure if it is the same at the cherokee, but it is the same as the one I had in my 87 S-10 pickup several years ago and that thing was a champ.
The engine is pretty good, has a little tranny leak I think is just the pan gasket, but other than that the engine is pretty decent.
There is a little hacker work done on it though so there are some things I need to rectify. But for a dd it works. And the insurace is almost NOTHING and it gets better gas than the Jeep so all in all it is a plus (well it will be once I get all the crap fixed).
But NO this is NOT Turning into another project. The goal is to put as LITTLE money into the Maro as possible and get the damn Heep DONE!!!!!!!!!!

Just a pan gasket leak, does this not sound familiar??????Originally Posted by Cue-Ball
Come on now Dave, that really hurts . I have not been ANYWHERE near this thing with a drill so I know I did not drill a hole in the tranny this time!!Originally Posted by DND
Infact I should be getting the Jeep back this week and will post up pics of the damaged tail housing when I get it back.
You're right, I guess that wound's still a little fresh to be taking shots, but I couldn't resist. You had to see it coming though.Originally Posted by Cue-Ball

Just wanted to let you know that it is NOT the pan gasket after all.
It looks like it is the governor housing and the speedo gear housing that are leaking. They are both sealed with o-rings that cost about $.15 each. Of course you have to draing the trans to get them replaced I believe so that just opens up even more potential for problems.
I tell you one of these days I am going to off all my vehicles and buy a horse. I mean if the horse gets hurt or sick you just shoot them and get another. Would be sooo much less headace I think
Good to hear, those are easy fixes. I'd recommend having a sniff of the fluid as it's a good indicator as to the health of the trans. It should be a nice cherry red and not smell burnt. As it's a GM unit don't be surprised by a significant amount of dusty debris in the pan, both metallic and fiberous, hopefully no chunkies though. Do you know what model it is? Probably a 200R4, if you're lucky it's already been replaced with a 700R4. I'm assuming it's a 4spd O/D unit, 3spd probably a TH350. Why am I rambling, you probably know all this already.Originally Posted by Cue-Ball
I don't know about the horse thing, you have to feed them even if they're not taking you anywhere. That and if they're not eating or sleeping, they're shitting.
Yea it is a 700R4. I plan to change the fluid and filter, install a drain plug and possibly a shift kit and call it done. I have to stay focused and just to the bare minimum to keep it on the road, I need to pay off some bills and then get back on the Jeep.
Sounds like a good plan. I wouldn't go for too harsh of a shift kit though, no need to start barking the tires and breaking expensive bits.Originally Posted by Cue-Ball
I know what you mean about this being expensive. We just re-geared my wife's XJ to 4.56s w/ARBs F&R. Plus we're in he middle of building her a rear bumper w/integrated air tank, tire/hi-lift and gas can carriers. Steel is STUPID expensive. I've said it before, I'm in too deep to stop now but building two at once is nuts.

Good point about breaking stuff Dave.
I am going to go with the cheapes kit I can get away with.
I can not even imagine doing 2 Jeeps at once, you all know how long I have been trying to build just this one!!!
Just a quick update on the Jeep project.
I finally have the tranny not leaking. Turns out it WAS NOT the holes I drilled in the tailhousing after all, we replaced the tailhousing and upon closer inspection I realized that I did not drill in far enough to even come close to making a hole. There were a multitude of other issue with the tranny leaking and they are all just about sorted out now.
As for the axle swap and LA's still putting the rest of the money together to get her all done. Hope to get the gears installed in the HP30 around Thanksgiving, then the only thing to get would be brakes for the 8.8, then get all the parts and pieces over to AW's shop and start the install. I know I will need to have some driveshaft work done once the lift is all in so we can get some good measurements, and since I traded my 35's for the tranny work I need to breakdown and get another set of tires.
I am sure there will be some other items I am forgetting about but I think that covers the big stuff anyway.
So help me out by placing you AMSOIL orders will ya??
Hows the camaro project going?
not trying to be a smartass, just wondering if you got anything updated on the tranny, also is the jeep tranny fixed?
Okay all, quick update:
I picked up the 231 TC this afternoon, has an SYE installed and looks great.
AW is done with the welding and stuff on the 8.8.
The HP30 is at the shop getting the gears installed.
So just about the only thing I have left to pick up is the DOM tubing for the steering, and then the limit straps and driveshafts after the suspension is in.
Right now looking like mid to end of Jan. to start the install.
I know I know, about fucking time, trust me I know!!!!
still think it will be finished this month? then we can finaly go wheeling! i cant wait till is finished....if you couldnt tell by all the pm's i send you ever couple months asking about it...i'll shut the hell up now
Thanks for asking Danny,
No worries on all the PM's I hope I am answering some of your questions with my responses.
It will NOT be completed this month, I was hoping to get it started this month but it is looking like it will not get started till sometime in Feb.
The goal is to be done on or around 3/12, not sure if that will happen just yet as I have alot going on right now. We just bought a new office building and well the build out is taking almost all of my time managing the general contractor and all that crap, so I really have not had the time to spend much on getting the last few parts and pieces.
But it looks like I have the Camaro sold should find out tomorrow wich will CERTAINLY help get me close to having the rest of the funds.
Thanks for asking, I am glad that someone else is still interested.
nice and shiny
