see clay, your new bumper is tellico tested, lexus approved
I think he's doint it purposely as an easily replaceable weak link?
Do the other stronger hubs outlast chromos? Might not be the most favorable thing
I broke a chromo 44 stub and the stock Jeep hub on my waggy 44 survived. Never broke one. It was nice being able to run locked/locked on the trail and open/open on the street (selectables and ARB rear), but then again I'd never want the stress of a dual purpose rig again. Having a dedicated rig to wheel and a tow rig/daily driver is so much more fun. Flanges from here on for me...
Some of us like to drive our rigs to and from the trail. Crazy conecept huh? If I break ANYTHING in the front end (driveshaft, axleshaft, u-joint, gears) I can just drop it in 2wd, unlock the hubs and forget about it.
Also I don't have to worry about how balanced the front driveshaft is or what the pinion angle is vs the driveshaft...
^ This is my main reason for running hubs.
I only have to get a broken rig to a trailer and my ass to the local bar. I have been to Moab too many times and worrying about getting home in a broken rig enough. I am like Cam, glass, doors and other sheet metal ruin the fun.
I unscrew three socket caps, pull two snap rings, pull slug, install spacer, cap and three socket caps. And three wheel back to the trailer.
Your front drive shaft must be square and your tcase only has one stick.

Thank you for proving my point more perfectly than I ever could. You're too close minded to consider that anyone wheels under different circumstances than you. You discuss things that work for you like they are the ONLY way to do things. Once again from your post
Because its obvious EVERYONE who wheels put our rig on the trailer at the end of the day with no glass, doors or sheetmetal with our square driveshafts and twin stick tcases. Damn, you have us all nailed!Another talking point: is why anyone would run selectable hubs?
We definately also all want to go through the process of removing and replacing that drive slug everytime we want to hop back on the road, because it's so much easier than turning a hub knob.
Yeah, you did get a rise out of me. I personally enjoy offering specific answers that I know will help people, but whatever floats your boat.
Sorry Cam, I'm done.
I'm sorry too Cam
Ha, no prob.. this is entertaining
Cam, you still around? How's the rig?
Ha yep I'm still kicking. It's hard to believe it's been almost 3 years since I touched this thread.
The rig had a tough 2012- early 2013 with major problems. The 6.0 was suffering from intermittent power loss under load. It was unbelievably frustrating and I dealt with it for 4-5 trips and even tested it under load on a dyno without finding a remedy. I finally ended up pulling the motor for a minor rebuild. I'm still not sure of the culprit but I did a lot of freshening up and it's fixed now. I've had it out twice with no major problems.
As part of the solution I added a cam, springs, LS1 injectors, an LS6 intake and lots of new sensors and fresh parts. I built a custom wiring harness to fit my setup exactly and built a new firewall. The cam I chose is a 224/224 @.050 112LSA .581/.581 w/ XER comp lobes, installed with PAC 1218 springs and 7.400" chromoly pushrods. Pics:
Hey can I recently flopped my zj and am looking for advice on what to do to make mine work like your first version of your rig with keeping the rear of the jeep. If you could email me at travisandrewhale@gmail.com it would be greatly appreciated.
