Here are the new upper mounts that I just made. My first project with the welder besides the jack stands. They will be welded and gusseted to the frame rail sleeve I have already on the ZJ. PLus a shot of what I am doing with the doors.

Not the best looking mounts by anymeans, but they should work for me and not break when I get them on the ZJ. You can see one of the tabs that was used for the old mount on the right.

I finished the broken passenger side today. What do you guys think? Should be a bit stronger than before. I am not the best at this, I am still learning with this welder.

I know, I am down to my last flap disc and I need to buy some more. I just hit it real fast before I took the pics. I will get a few more and clean up the mounts some before I paint them. Thanks for the compliment, I have been watching your build it is looking sweet.

I will try and get you a sound clip of the hushpower tomorrow...

The new mounts are made from a mix of 1/4" and 3/16". There are some gussets and what not that you cant see becuase of the 1/4" welded on top. You think that was to thin? I figured it was just for the uppers and I gusseted the hell out of them so it would be fine...

Personally... yes. Ive seen 3/16" tear apart when used for link mounts. Bolt can literally rip through it, bringing the suck.

my link mounts in the rear are 5/16" and front are 1/4", nothing less. When control arms become free the damage can become fatal to other components, coilovers, oil pan, etc.

I know what you are talking about. When I ripped some of my upper CA mounts off in the front last year a TDS. Damage was 2 coilover shafts and a front driveshaft. It is to late now, I already made the mounts, I guess we will have to see what happens. Thanks for the input, I appreciate the crticism.... I hope they hold...

I forgot about that, shit that was in Petersons too... LOL

I dont think you would have to rebuild them, more so add another piece of 3/16" to each side, at the bolt head, and nut sides. Weld the bottom and top and call it a day... better safe than sorry.

LOL. I know, my rig gets in a magazine for the first time and it is busted.... WTF. The funny part was my rig was busted the front end held together with ratchet straps sitting on my fucked trailer with 3 wheels. Didn't have a spare so I had to drive the trailer home that way...

I will do that, put some 3/16" on the bolt and nut side. Thanks again for the info.

I like those new mounts, they look like they'll be quite a bit stronger than the "tabs" before. Nice work! With the first couple of pics I wasnt exactly getting what you were going for, but now that I see them installed...

Finally started ont he belly skid and new xmember. I have gained over 3" of total clearance at the belly. The top is going to be plated with 3/16" plate and the skid out of 1/4" plate. Gonna be on the heavy side. Still have a llot to do, but it is a start.

I like the looks of the new belly pan. I look forward to seeing the completed pics. 3" improvement in clearance at the belly should be nice.

I got the rest of the skid solid welded together. My camera died so i couldn't take any pic. As soon as I get the bottom plated and it mounted I will take some more. I added a little length to the back of the kid to protect the flowmaster. I am happy for the most part. It is just one heavy fawker....

I suppose the weight to the middle of the rig, could be a positive.

Nice.... So you think my heims are ..... FAWKER. LOL. 3/4" heims if I am correct. I haven't had any issues with them, and they have been beat on. 1 1/4" heims would have been better, but are expensive.

We will be there, I hope we can get together. Definately for a 36 pack or something.

Maybe you can help me break them.

Isn't the tensile strength of 3/4" heims like 30,000 lbs or something?

I don't know what the yield strength is. I'm no engineer. I ran 1.25" heims on my lowers cause they take a beating.

People also say 1.75x.25 tube is pretty heavy stuff for LCA's, but i used 1.75x.375 and bent them with my relatively light rig.

If you don't break them then they are strong enough.

    It's on for that beer.

My lowers are 2" x .250 wall. In all reality I will upgrade them some day. When they break or wear out. By the way thanks for the comment about the doors. I want to get them finished by Moab so I need to get my ass in gear.

Right on about the beer. See you there in a few weeks.

I will get you that video. I want to get a little better sound quality for you. One problem is the POS has a dead battery right now. Making it to TDS is not looking good...

Here are some pics of the new belly skid. Probably some ghetto fab to most, but the best I could do with my current fab experience... Thought I would share anyways. Besides the stock bolts, there are 10 1/2" bolts running through the frame to plate on the other side of the rail. ( 5 on each side). Each bolt is about 2" apart.

Not the nicest, but it should do what I need it to do.

    Thanks guys...

While I have the lower arms disconnected, you think I should add more triangulation to them? I should be fine as far as clearance with my drive shaft to get a bit more. Any thoughts?

    Here is an old pic...
