Well, I finally got a few pics...
The rest can be found at: http://home.comcast.net/~jlavy/albums/Jeep_cage/
Jason
nice, gotta keep the leather seats and woodgrain trim
For the sake of bordom:
I kill bandwidth for fun
Looking good
is that what the bottom of the stock A pillar looks like? just want to know before I hack off my rockers to fix the rust
Yep, it is inside of the rocker. I chose to cut the lower part off and weld it to the 4x4 rocker panel. You also have to watch out for the b-pilar bracing.
Jason
this is what I found...

trying to figure how I want to make new rockers and deal with the pillar
are you planning on beefing the "frame" rails?
I like the frame rails. Only thing I'm not sure if I like is the height of the cage. Could be the pics too.
Maine: The frame rails are boxed with 1/4" wall tubing between the brackets for Kevins LA's. If you are keeping it full bodied, Alaska has a good write-up on his site.
Trance: The diagonal bar that runs from the a to c pilars is about 3" above my head when I'm in the seat( I'm 6'2". I'm actually worried that it may be to short. I do plan to install racing seats and lower them a little for more comfort.
Cody, I could also...The rear quarter panels are coming off, I just don't have the $$$ for air shocks or coilovers and it seems to be the easiest way to keep everything together for the moment. My next incarnation will be a tubed rear. I tapered the rear so it should be a very easy transition.
what axles are you going to run?
Jason,
Are you going to relocate that gas tank? I would if I was you. It is one of the best things I ever did to the chuggy.
Looking good. Keep it up and keep us posted.
How does Sarah feel about this?
The old man and I were sitting around looking at those pictures just last week.....
Brentt,
Eventually the gas tank will be relocated. Sara is not to keen on that idea (fears storage loss), but she has taken everything else very well. She even helped me bend the tube.
Axles: Right now, I plan to keep the 30 and 8.8. When I go to 40's I'll go with a d60 and either 14bolt or 35 spline 9".
Good Plan on the axles.
Well you guys don't have any kids. Your not gonna take any cross country trips in that thing...
Loss of storage is always a big thing for us. That is one area that we are SUPER spoiled in.
But think about it this way. Even with the tank relocation, you still have more storage than a stock TJ or YJ.....They run the same drivetrain and have the same problems.....you can find a storage solution!
If I don't sell my rig, I think I'm going to build a rack above my fuel cell to keep stuff in. I'm tired of having my cooler spill water on me every time it gets tippy to my side.
Cody
I actually thought about that when i saw your rig at GSW, gave me a few ideas if I chop the back too. I think it'd be sweet (So don't sell your rig. Unless it's to me.)Originally Posted by Cody

Any input? I plan to add another cross bar on the back, forming an X. What is everyone's feeling about a diagonal at the b-pillar?
Jason
IT wouldnt hurt to have two small diagnals at the b pillar from the seat brace down.. Especially if the seat bar sits in a bend...
Its coming together nicely... Cage looks very sturdy..
Two Questions...
Are you planning on putting any of the sheet metal back on?
Like front fenders mostly.. Or maybe doors??
and Second.. Are you gonna carry a spare??
Just wondering...
Carl
Yes, I'm planning to run the doors, but they will be gutted. I'm taking all the internals out to lighten the load. The front fenders are also going back on.
I'm putting a spare tire mount on the rear X.
Lookin good
what size is that steel for your rockers?
You have a harness bar behind the front seats? If so your front door bars should meet at that node. You should have made the b pillar a hoop or at least make your roof x a star. Take a tube from the roof center node to the side b pillar. You going to run a dash bar? You NEED an x brace in the b pilar behind the front seats.
Jason, not sure if you have seen my cage albums, but you may find these of use:

I see the dash bar but the windshield v is going to push against an unsupported span in the a pillar. Run a roof bar from the a pillar to the center of your roof x
Chad
I loved it until I saw this:
The whole cage looks awesome, but, for some reason I can't put my finger on, that view from behind just doesn't look right.
Yes, my comments are based purely on asthetics since I have know idea what constitutes a good cage.
