I was looking to ditch Kevin's LA setup in the front for a more traditional radius arm setup. Instead of buying yet another kit I was going to build my own arms. I started looking into .250" wall 1.5" tubing (same stuff as my steering) but AprilzWarrior was telling me how it would bend if I smacked it to hard on a rock. I've heard people mension .250" wall box tubing as well. I was pretty much hoping somebody could chime in and tell me what would be the smartest thing to build LAs out of.
I've seen 2x2x.25 tube take some pretty hard hits on rocks with no bad effects
Given the same material properties, 2"x2" box tubing with 1/4" wall is nearly twice as strong as 2" Diameter tube with 1/4" wall.
just use kevins lowers and attach radius arms to it.

However the arm isn't adjustable (something I'd like to play with) and I don't feel like trying to re-design the arms to make them adjustable. Worst case senario, yea, I would cut his UCA off and make it like a radius setup.
My lowers are 1.75" x .120 walled DOM sleaved over 1.5" x .25" DOM. FWIW, they are bent. My uppers are 1.5 x .120 I believe and they don't bend because they don't land on rocks.

Lol I guess that kills off my idea of making LA out of .250" x 1.5" DOM (and it would have looked clean too).
look down the page about 16 threads and you'll find my long arm information. 1.5".25 wall is pritty strong stuff but 2x2 is pure beef.

When we make our own tierods and draglinks, why use round tubing? I used sch 80 pipe and didn't think twice about it, but for what it's use is and how it's likely to get hit, 1.5" square stock with a 0.250 wall would have been better wouldn't it? or am I missing something?

Chase, I don't understand why you don't want to modify the lowers to be adjustable. Hell, you have the materials and half of the arm right there. Unless you like wasting money on materials you don't need b/c you have them right infront of you. Just make the lowers adjustable and make upper arms that attach to the stock d30 mounts and Lowers. Should take a day at most to whip something up. If you are worried about the lowers bending, sleeve them again or just add some angle to the bottom and 1 side.

2. If you really want radius arms then get a hold of kevin and get a set of his upper radius style xj arms. You might have to do a little work to make them work but it isn't that much work.
What is the reason you want to ditch the current setup besides having adj. lowers?

It means that the heim joints are attached on both sides of the joint to steel. It does what he wanted and that was to elimante 30 housings from getting twisted which is what everyone elses can do. It needs to be reworked to a much shorter profile though.

sort of. Its a 3 link +trackbar with a truss on the 30
It looks like I'll prob be modding Kevin's arms. I'm pretty sure I would be plenty happy if all I acomplished was ditching that stupid d30 truss.
1.5 Sch 80 with 1x1 angle welded along the bottom edge. If it can handle 45 terra tires it can handle your junk.
Has anybody used 1 1/4" heims?
