It is fun. I would share the name but it should remain unsaid. Come to Arizona and we can wheel it together.

Thanks. I would like another four legged friend but I think I am going to wait.

It is all about pedal feel right. I have tried wheeling with no shoes I sucked at it! But to be fair I suck at wheeling also.

Got some new cartridge joints coming and going to head to Andrew's to make some aluminum control arms here in the next few days. Going to run 1 1/4" studded lower joints and reuse the 1" for the upper arms. Going to loose some more weight which is always a good goal.

Dayum. Will they have better deformation characteristics also so it wont be so hard on joints?

After calling up some friends to unload this heavy SOB (350 pounds and my engine lift is at Justin's getting dusty HINT HINT) I did some work to the Idealarc: new red paint, new front casters, 2/0 ground and electrode leads, new look-alike Lincoln handle (made it to look like the one on my Powermig), new input power plug and bought the Hi Freq box for TIG welding (Ebay find).

Also found it was wired correctly and it has the Power Correction Capacitors from the factory!

So when you are done modding it it will be an arc and tig welder? Monetarily does it work out cheaper to do it this way vs just buying a tig? Or is there something I am missing about this machine?

    Yes.

I am 550 dollars into this project. A comparable TIG machine (Precision TIG 275, Square Wave 255 or Square Wave 275) with the output I want are going anyware between 1500 and 3500 dollars if they come depending on if they come with a water cooler and their age. I have budgeted about 750 dollars for this project.

The down size is that the TIG process with this power source only uses an arc start switch and not an Amptrol. I am hoping to teach myself some TIG, electrical work and knowledge and these hold their value VERY well so I can sell this for what I have in and pickup a transformer TIG machine if I want.

I just like welding equipment. After this is done I will have a very capable machine to complete my collection of MIG, Spool Gun, TIG and Stick.

Saw your wanted post for the a/c stuff, didn't want to clutter that thread up, but do you really think it will be effective in an open rig? I still had a/c in mine up until a couple years ago, and even with just the doors off it was almost useless when wheeling.

EDIT: I'm planning on reworking my cooling system this summer and am planning on using something like these: http://www.homedepot.com/Plumbing/h_...atalogId=10053 May need to do a better job of matching a pump to those though than I did the first go round.

I just want some cool air. I still have the compressor. So it won't take much to put it back in.

I was also thinking of a pump to run cool ice water through tubes bedded into the seats. Like the cooling suits race car drivers use. There are some decent small 12 volt pumps at Harbor Freight that would be up to the task. I have seat heaters, wouldn't be much to switch out between seasons. I am redoing the seat mounts and removing the center counsel so a small cooler can take up that location.

I've thought about that before too, would be pretty sick to have cooled seats when you're running in the desert like some new fancy cars have.

just run some simple flex duct from your airbox to right over your seat. have it on your face/neck and one down right onto your feet and you'll be a happy camper even in open air. get decent ducting and spend some time with it and it won't look like ass either.
