I am posting some photos and taking a break from writing a Managerial Finance paper. blah.
Someone asked what the belly height was. Call it 23 inches.
Threw some paint on the driver rocker after finishing the sheet metal work.
The spool gun was an asset with this project. Loaded a 2 pound spool of 0.023 in it and went to town.
Whats under the cover next to the Jeep?
Finished overall pictures.
Looks fawking awesome man!!
Man I wish I had some money for 42's. Looking at my photos it looks like they would fit.
I think they would clear!! Im happy with 35s for awhile haha.
Should've taken it to race in KOH.
That whole substructure you have built there is pretty damn cool. I like how the rockers claytons and factory rails are all working off the same real estate.
All done? I'm looking forward to seeing it at GSW this year.
Whoops sorry. Whenever I see la's on here I tend to assume claytons or a copy of them. So the theory behind building a unibody rig (your rig in this case) is make the unit body rails, boatsides, cage strong and tied together in a substructure so you arent relying on the actual body for structural support?
Im trying to get a plan together for future mods to the xj so I can make them all work together like that.
Also if you dont mind I have one other question. I have been trying to get an answer to it for a while. I want to plate all three availible sides of my unit body rails but I wonder if it will move the stress riser to the floorboard since it will be the only unplated side. What would you think of drilling a 1-1.5" hole through horizontally and welding in a slug of dom. I have been kicking the idea around for a while.
That was the plan for my rig. Frame rail sleaves, cage feet, rocker feet, suspension mounts and crossmembers. It all ties together. My week points are the frame rail horns, front and rear.
Moving around the week point is the extreme disadvantage of building station wagons. Just take a systems approach and you will be fine. Plating the inside of the frame rail would be a good start to adding strength to the frame rail horns without replacing them with a tube structure. The motor has to be pulled for access to the area with the welding torch. The floor pans are a moot point in my mind. The structures around them are the weekpoints.
A DOM sleave wouldn't hurt but there is some internal structure that you need to be aware of before you start drilling holes.
Looks good Chad. I really like the way the rockers look. They look very sturdy and functional.
Ok thanks for taking the time to answer that. I may bounce some ideas off you once I get movin.
Getting ready for wheeling next weekend and found this:
My almost 10 year old Johnny Joint is bending.
was the jam nut still tight?
