So my ZJ's rockers are toast on the inner walls, big surprise, I know. I plan on doing built in rock sliders (similar to Kraqa's, but quite as high into the doors) and was just curious what you guys prefer for material. I was going to use 2x6" 3/16 wall, but found a friend of my wife has a load of 2x4" leftover from a project he is willing to unload cheap. Do you guys think I can get decent protection with 2x4", or won't there really be enough left sticking out to protect the body very well?

2x4 will work to replace the rocker, then you'll need to add some additional tubing to act as the rub rail/step. I used .120 wall DOM tube, and I'm denting it. If I was to do it again I'd use 3/16" wall box.
If they get some dents, that's no big deal. As long as they protect the body. He just got a tubing bender, too. Only has a 1" die set right now, but he said it will bend solid bar stock. Heavy but durable, right? Lol! 1" solid bar rock sliders...
