Hey everyone. My name is Scott, I've been registered here for a while but never posted since I didn't have a grand cherokee.. I just picked up my next project.. I used to have a yj on 35s with lots of modifications, but stupidly sold it a few years ago. Well, I stumbled across this 98 for a song, so I bought it. 98 zj Laredo 4.0 auto with the np242 t case. Immediate plans are a set of 31s, only because it needs tires stat, and 35s arent happening until after all the appropriate modifications have been made (I.E. getting rid of the Dana 35). I will start collecting parts for the build once I do some standard maintenance on the rig. Parts will consist of:

Ford 8.8 rear axle

Lockers front and rear

Bumpers, sliders

Full interior cage

35s on beadlocks

But here is how it's currently sitting.... bone stock.

The ram next to it is my overlanding rig.. CVT mt Denali roof top tent, leitner designs bed rack, Cummins 2500 6 spd manual...

It's not much but I replaced the battery that was in it. The PO had put a group 65 battery in that was way too big for the jeep, and it was on its last legs. A quick trip to Napa auto parts and i got the right battery in it...

Next up is fixing the battery terminals...

Ken, most definitely. My only free time is on weekends, so I am fixing things as I have time. I have an entire list of just maintenance items to fix/replace before I can begin mods.

The name Greybeard kind of suits it. It's kind of older but in a distinguished way. Can't wait to see it in its full glory once you're done modding it, Scott.

Tomorrow I have plans for an oil change, air filter change, if I get ambitious enough, I'll replace my broken header panel and install my new headlight assemblies, and replace the two rear tires with the two best ones from this...

Picked up a set of 4 wheels and tires, in the size I need and the same wheel design, in order to replace the two bald tires on #projectgreybeard until I can purchase a suspension lift... best part, the guy wanted $50 for the whole set, and he only lives about a mile from me .

Changed the oil, changed the air filter, put on two of the used tire/wheels I needed to make the tires safe again.. put in the new headlight assemblies. They arent perfect but they work better than the fogged up ones. They are cheaply made, and my header panel behind the grill is broken, so eventually I'll need to fix that if I want the headlights perfectly straight.. but right now, I'm not worried about it.

Welcome! Your build is much like mine, and mine is going slowly. One of these days I'll start a thread for it. Keep up the good work! It's nice to see another one saved from the scrap heap.

I know it's been a LONG while since I've updated this.. I haven't done anything but some regular maintenance, and put gas in it... But I finally got around to ordering suspension for it! 5.5" Iron Rock Offroad Rock Link kit.. Also got some new spring isolators for the front and rear as well, because I'm sure the stock ones are worn out. Now I wait for parts to arrive and figure out how I'm going to find time to install the suspension. So.. My EVENTUAL goal for this jeep is to be on 35's... This is after I swap the rear axle out for either a D44A or a Ford 8.8. But for now, the Jeep will be on 33's as an axle swap is a ways down the road..

Looks good I have a 98 ZJ 4.0 same color and an Alison slowly coming along on mine I have a bit of maintenance stuff to do and am on a tight budget so I do what I can here and there

I've looked at those IRO kits, they look pretty nice and like they should work well. I know a guy who has their basic long arm kit (not the Rock Link) and has been pretty happy with it. A little jealous of your long arms as all I've been doing is basic maintenance and driving mine.
