WJ 231/dana60/10.5 issue

I have a 2003 WJ with dana60/10.5 swap and the 231 swap. My speedometer does not work but i know you can wire into the 231 and make the speedometer work. I havent found the thread for this write up, but i believe there is one out there. Please assist if possible, thank you for any information in advance.

I'm assuming you want to use the transfer case sensor because you no longer have any ABS sensors hooked up. This can be done.

Follow the steps in the links below (or search "speedometer calibration WJ") to install speedometer calibration module between the ABS computer and the BCM. However, instead of taking the input signal from the ABS computer, you're going to take the signal from the t-case speed sensor. In typical factory installation the speed sensor is powered from the PCM, on my ZJ the sensor power bus voltage is 5V nominal. I'm assuming it would be the same for TJs and XJs or what ever you pulled the 231 out of. You could splice into the sensor power bus of the WJ (off the top of my head I don't know if its also 5V) or just use a 5V voltage regulator. You have to supply battery power the the speedometer calibration module (13.8V) anyway, so you'll have a convenient place to tap power to the 5v regulator.

This was a huge help. I'll be doing this in the Am and will post the results. I purchased a half done rig and in in the midst of working through the crap. Speedometer being the next on the list, after that will be wiring and plumbing the ARB and finishing the cage... Ugh lol

Ok so i have found that the wires on for the plug on my VSS do not line up with the posts. I have solid orange, black/blue, and brown/blue. The abs plug seems to be correct coloring for the wires. I am connecting the supposed signal wire to green/yellow on the abs harness. I have tried a couple combinations without luck. Do i need to splice any of the wires at the abs plug?

I have the vss working properly and the signal wire is ran to the signal wire at the abs plug (CAB). My next question is do I hook the signal wire from the transfer case to the wire going into the CAB (circled in green) or the wire going away from the CAB (circled in blue)?

Sorry your pictures didn't come up. The wire color codes are different for 1999-2001 and 2002-2004. This is documented in the write ups/videos

You need to use an electronic speedometer calibration of some sort (like the SpeedoDRD) because the pulse frequency will be way off. The ABS computer (CAB) does some processing with the signals from the ABS sensors/tone rings and spits out a signal which goes to the PCM or the BCM I can't remember which. You need to splice the calibration module output into the line going away from the CAB and to the PCM. The wire coming out of the CAB will be left un-connected. I'll draw something up...
