Ok guys I moved to Utah in October and just got back into yet another grand so I'm looking to make my first appearance at GSW and meet everyone. However I took a serious pay cut and my fun budget just isn't what it was. So how is everyone doing GSW on the cheap? I live in slc and will hopefully be trailering down to Moab in my dodge which means I can't tow my camper.

Hotels in Moab aren't as cheap as they used to be unfortunately. Even the cheap rooms are over $100/night these days. There are several places that offer "cabins" though, which are basically Tuff Sheds with beds in them. Canyonlands Campground is a popular alternative to the Redstone for those wanting to get there a little cheaper, and it is next door to the Redstone so that you can still come hang out and drink beer with us at night.

We're pitching a tent at Canyonlands Campground. Less than $250 for the week, with power and water. Split that 3-ways and you're gravy.

Also, don't eat out every night. That is a little tougher if you're camping, just bring a cooler and stock up at City Market. Even the crappy restaurants expect to pay $25 a meal. Last year we dragged the cooler over to the Redstone and grilled every night.

I'm looking at trying to get a friend to come with us and allow us to bring the camper since kelly will not be able to stay the entire week and needs to drive her Jk so she can get home. Anyone coming from the salt lake area?

Better call first and check on site availability. The Canyonlands campground was about full when I made my reservations.

In years past I used to park my truck and trailer at the top of the hill just across from the entrance road to Potato Salad Hill and sleep on the trailer under the jeep (this works great unless it rains and you've already drilled drainage holes in the floor of the jeep). Showers are about $2 at the car wash (I recommend the spot free rinse...it's just RO water and lower pressure (trust me, you don't want the high pressure), and won't leave any pesky spots on you). You can buy a loaf of bread, peanut butter, and a lb of honey at the store for like $10 and that can feed you for 3-4 days. Bring some jugs for water and boom, Moab on like $20 + fuel.

While the car wash shower sounds exciting, you can shower (without a time limit) at the KOA for $5.

The bike shop in the City Market parking lot has showers too. Nice and convenient to get rid of your stank prior to our drivers' meetings.

Wow, I'm sad Moab adds up so much now. I remember how cheap I did that first trip in 2004 there, the Red Roof In must have been 50/night and I just grilled meals. I guess I always see Moab on TV now and it's even more of a tourist destination, lame.

However this post is inspiring. I want to come to GSW. Should I wheel the Tucson, the Sonata, or the Sienna?

I might actually. I won't know until literally the week of because my work/travel schedule is so sporadic. But I'd be bringing out the WJ.
