So I swapped in a new water pump over the long weekend. Now I have a minor leak coming from the tube that goes into the water pump housing on the driver's side. I think it is called the coolant return tube or something like that.
Anyway I had a hell of a time getting the old tube into the new water pump with a new o-ring (the o ring came with the water pump). I must have pinched it or something because now I have a leak there.
Anyone have any tips on this? Where can I find just the o-ring, or what size is it so I can hit up a hardware store?
2 steps forward, 1 step back...
If you find an o-ring for it, let me know. The last new pump I got for a ZJ included the o ring for that tube, the one I got last month did not so I just goobered RTV all over it. It dripped a few drops at first, but apparently the heat cycling of running the motor made it expand a bit and it doesn't leak anymore.
The other thing I'll do with O-rings is put a bit of motor oil on them before inserting them. Dry O-rings are a major pain in a fitting like that.
I've always done rtv because no o-rings have worked for me.
Because Jeep.
