This followed me home, so I decided to keep it.
It is a Dana 60 from a '99 Ford E-350. Smooth bottom, big bore spindles (will fit 35 splines without drilling), factory disc brakes, 3.5" tubes, 8 on 6.5" . Another nice bonus is the flange yoke is the same as on my 8.8 so maybe no changes to the rear drive shaft required.
Plan is to cut long side down for equal length shafts, resulting is a WMS to WMS of about 64.5". Going to add a 35 spline locker, alloy cut to length Yukon shafts. Not going to do much with the front axle yet, just swap the outers to 8-lug. I will work on this over the summer and swap it in at the end of the wheeling season.
Stock shafts are 32 spline, 34.92" and 37.64" I have both stock axles if anyone wants them. Factory WMS to WMS is about 67.5". Axle stamped 606190-1. Same axle was used from '99 to '04, then in '05 the vans got the metric lug pattern.
Nice score! I'm running a custom 60 in the rear of my ZJ, plenty of beef. You'll like it.
As you know I am very interested on how your swap goes
Hey Ted, Jake and I are finishing up a SAS with 44 on his taco.
He switched from 8 lug to 6 lug and still has all the parts, I bet he would cut you a deal. Or if your 6 lug he would straight trade
That is awesome to hear, I'm not having much luck finding 8 lug outers locally. I'd be happy to offer some $ for his take off parts. My front axle is currently 5x5.5 (mix of chevy/ford stuff) but the 6 bolt stuff seems to be common.
Also let me know if you are doing high steer with flat top knuckles. I can machine them for you http://mallcrawlin.com/forum/showthread.php?26511
That is pretty sweet! One of the things I like about my F150 9" is equal length shafts!
Any updates on the build?? very much interested
Well truth in advertising, this is still a slow build. So nearly 2 years later, the axle is finally under the jeep. In the end, I chose not to narrow the axle, but rather run some high offset Hummer 2 wheels. (But we had to open up the center hole of the wheels to clear the hubs.) The front D44 will get converted to 8-lug and I'll use spacers for now to match the widths. Next year I'll figure out if I want to build a full width D44 or D60 or do nothing.
I still have a laundry list of items to finish, like brake lines and adjusting control arms. But at least it is under there!
The clearance under the smooth bottom D60 is excellent. Compared to the Ford 8.8 just I took out, the D60 hangs only about 1/4" lower!
