This is a 4 litre. Forum will not allow attachments. Can someone fix that?

So my jeep shed a weird skin the other day...

Any thoughts on what this might be?

    Looks like your old ZJ?

So I have been busy on my WJ. Some work I did and some Corey did.
    New Heater Core
    New electric fan
New unit bearings and 30 spline shafts
    New wheels and tires
    New battery
    adjusted control arm bushings
    Window regulators

I still have a couple more items to get it road trip ready but it is close.

I am planning on putting bed liner on the cladding, rock sliders and wheel openings. Anyone put bed liner on the plastic cladding before?

Remove the cladding, wash with soap/water, dry, do a light sand and clean with Xylene for best adhesion.

Bed liner evil. Non glossy surface sun fades and catches dirt. I have it on 2 vehicles and hate it.

If you use the UV protectant it wont fade as much. But you're right about the dirt.

I had to replace some cladding on the drivers side because some dork his my Jeep while parked on the street. So I am going to test different methods and I have two different types of spray on liner on the old cladding. I have had great results over the last 2-3 years on the front of my Jeep and one of the cans I bought is a Rust Oleum product with UV protection. So here is hoping.

Back to real tech. I am building a rack system inside the back of my Jeep. Some of the stuff I am using is galvanized and I need to weld it in parts. I have done this before and just used a filter mask, any other suggestions or cautions with welding galv metals?

I looked at my ZJ today, does that count? Was out in the shop working on the Typhoon this afternoon, have a couple things to do on the ZJ but not much. Typhoon needs to get some love for a bit, then it's on to getting the ZJ and tow rig ready for GSW. Luckily, neither one of them needs much. Tow rigs needs an oil change, and I have to mess with the wiring for my gauges to find out why the lights don't come on. ZJ really could just about go to Moab today, but hope to add Rick's fancy headlights and a few other things before Moab.

Keith, I've welded galvanized outside with flux core wire. I think a good portion of the galvanizing is removed when prepping the metal, but welding outside so there is a breeze seemed to work for me. Granted, I didn't weld a lot, just a few joints, but I didn't want to take any chances.

Did the "Big 3" upgrade on my '02 4.7l HO to try to get rid of an electrical gremlin, and it looks like it worked! (bought everything on eBay, great prices and whatnot)

    big three is:

-upgrade wire from battery + to alternator +
-upgrade wire from battery - to chassis ground
-upgrade wire from battery - to engine block grounding point (or alternator - if you feel so inclined)

Don't confuse this with the big 3 from adult film

It was definitely worthwhile for me. My Jeep wouldn't start up every now and then, and when turning the engine off the Jeep would occasionally lose all power (no interior lights, no stereo in "accessory" mode, etc.). I know part of the problem was the factory battery terminal connectors, they were crapping out and weren't a tight fit on the terminals. I was going to replace just those, but ended up replacing the wires while at it (didn't have much extra slack in the OEM harness anyway).

I knocked it out over a few days, probably took 2 hours all-in, the most time consuming part was removing the OEM electrical tape/wrap on the harness. I used 4 gauge wire and the new terminal connectors gave me enough room to connect extra lights/trickle charger/etc.

There's a guy who sells a pre-made kit online for $145, for those who are interested. He uses 1/0 wire, I didn't need anything that beefy. My all-in total was ~$60.

Changed the oil and filter on my wife's WJ, tightened the bolts for the oil pan as much as I can and the transmission pan bolts. Found that I am going to be doing a rear transmission seal too from the looks of it. Got to love dropping a transfer case. Oh well, 160k and maintenance has been basics over the last 12 years.
