I just picked up a winch (link) and wanted to modify my existing custom built bumper to accept it. The goal of the original bumper and radiator support was to keep it as tight as possible as to not kill the approach angle. With that in mind, to integrate the winch I'd expect that I'd have to cut out the front "cross member" to recess the winch a few inches.

Can someone point me to a build that included removing all or part of the front cross member to tuck the winch between the "frame" rails?

Not sure if the pics exist anymore, but Corey did that on the Chalupa. I was going to do the same until I got a free ARB.

I did that with the ZJ and wj for the case and point
"ZJ's were designed with the intention to take 1 really good hit, and fold up. As long as the occupants walked away, it was a success. In the wheeling world, we expect our vehicles to take multiple really good hits, drive out of it, and run the obstacle again!"
