I got a few questions about the soft shackles I was using at GSW 2015 (had to get them out 3 times). I've been using these for the last couple years after hearing about them from some Land Rover guys. I bought mine from Lucky 8 Offroad (I think I paid $25 each). It looks like a few other vendors are making them now. The are reasonably easy to make if you know how to work with synthetic braided line. Loop the line back through itself to make the choker and tie a diamond knot with the two ends.

A couple videos on how to make them.

Looks pretty interesting! Thanks for sharing.

I had a 10' length of 1/2" line so I decided to try my hand and making a soft shackle, ended up more of a "super" shackle, 3/4" diameter, 3' long. Working with the line was a fun new challenge. The professionally made shackles are made from 5/16" line, so I can only imagine what this one is good to. I need to pick up a short length of tubular webbing to act as a chafe guard.
Any idea where to pick up short lengths of winch rope to make these? I'm still running cable on my winch, but I can see lots of uses for these.
I just ordered som 5/16th Amsteel blue from this arborist site http://www.wesspur.com/clearance/clearance-rope.html.
