Started on one of the workbenches today. Top isn't attached yet and the base isn't finished yet. Right side will house the beer fridge, built to standard under counter appliance size. Middle will house one of my craftsman tool boxes for drawers. Left side will have shelves for the Chromebox, receiver, and other stuff.

It actually does. I want to go back and add a 3rd screw to most of the joints to provide more strength.

I was just busting your balls... akin to all the cage discussions.

    Project looks good overall.

Oh I know, it was just kinda funny how you posted that when I had already been thinking about it. I severely underestimated the number of screws I was going to need, so I had to hold back in a few spots. This bench will never see anything anywhere near heavy enough to really take full advantage of the strength it will have, but its also basically a prototype for the other ones I am going to build along the back wall that will house 2 of the Harbor Freight 44" tool boxes full of tools, and all sorts of stuff thrown on top of them.

Your going to end up hating the laminate on your counter tops i tried that works good for awhile then starts chipping and peeling, find a friend that does AC duct work and have him bend up some sheet metal to cover the tops works pretty good and resist oil and wont chip or peel .

That bench won't be used for any major work. Mostly for cleaner stuff, guns, r/c cars, computers, holding my beer, etc. There will be a couple other workbenches with steel tops for the dirtier work.

The construction phase of the bench is done, just need to stain it and slap the top on it.

Got it moved over into place today. Still need to do some cable cleanup for all of the junk on the shelf with the receiver. My wifi router is there, Chromebox, and DTV box all share that shelf so there's a lot of wires. Turns out my dad has an undercounter fridge he's not using so I'll pick that up in the next couple of days and slide it in. I missed on the outlet on the right side of the bench, so I'll figure something out there, will likely use that one for the fridge.

    Really coming together nicely, Dave.

Are you going to do a kegerator too or just the mini fridge?

We had thought about doing a kegerator out here but I doubt we would really use it enough to justify the expense and upkeep. That also means less kegs in the kegerator in the house. We will make a jockey box, likely a fancy custom one, at some point though that we can hook up a few kegs for parties outside.

Started laying out some plans for the rest of the benches that I hope to complete over the next couple of weeks. Basically it will be a big L in the other back corner. One section will have the 2 Harbor Freight 44" boxes built into it and be on leveling legs. That will start on the far right side of the back wall, next to the compressor. I am going to try to clean up the Gladiator bench top that I already have and reuse that on top of the bench with the HF boxes.

I had struggled with what to do with the rest of it. I wanted an area for woodworking, and one for metal working/welding and such. The wood working stuff takes up a lot more room than my metal stuff too. So the rest of the back wall with just have a regular bench with a sealed MDF top. I'm going to take some of the caster wheels off the HF boxes though and use those to make a rolling welding/metal work table that will nest under the workbench on the back wall. Along the left wall I will make a portable somewhat modular woodworking bench. Something in a similar style to this where the router table and table saw are built into it and flush with the top. Not sure on the orientation of that yet, but it will be on wheels as well. When not in use it will be up against the left wall as a bench, and we'll be able to still get a lot of functionality out of it in place. If we have some larger woodworking projects to work on, we can wheel it out into the middle of the shop or the driveway. I'm going to run full power to the bench so everything will plug in to the bench power, and try to come up with some type of dust collection as well.

Dave, are you planning on making one bench with a metal top or at least a metal edge? That's one thing I wish I had for pounding and welding stuff.

The welding cart will be all metal. The butcher block top on the Gladiator has held up pretty well to beating on it as well. I may put a couple foot section of plate in as the top on the bench on the back wall.

    Nice shop man!

Started in on one of the remaining work benches today. This one will house my other 26" Craftsman tool box and some shelves. The left side of it is left open underneath on purpose. I'm going to take the caster wheels from one of the HF boxes and use them on a welding/fab cart and it will slide under this bench in that spot to stay out of the way when not in use. Not sure what I'll use for the top yet, likely just some mdf.
