The info site has been updated with all the new info we have at this point. www.grandslamwest.org
Offering some more scenic and moderate trails for 2014 and it sounds like we will have a couple of WKII's this year already!!
Kels and I are going to be there. We're down to lead whatever trails needed.
If I had money I would go. Id be driving my Jeep there and back.
Thanks for getting the dates down so early this year. I have to plan my vacations for the next year in November, so that has been hard for me to attend a GSW since I've been in my current career.
Well I am out again for 2014. Between the wife and myself we need 5-6 crowns and a new tooth. She shattered a molar and had it removed. I guess it needs a Ti post and a new tooth, thats ~$3900. Then crowns for both of us as our teeth fall apart, $1800 each crown. Hope to suffer through and get this done over 3 years to max out the insurance portion.
Cant complain too much as the original fillings (and teeth) last 40 years or more.
Booked our room at The Red Stone Inn tonight at the GSW rate. Come on Moab, not that I probably won't be out there at least once before June.
Thanks for the reminder! I also just booked mine, and the lady said they have a couple of tour groups coming in for that weekend, so there's only about 3 rooms left for the 14th and 15th. Better book soon if you want to stay at the Redstone!
Sister in law is getting married that weekend so I am out this year
I've been trying to make this event every year for the past 3 or 4 years and every time it gets close something happens and I can't make it
so this year I'm going to try and make it once again and if I don't buy a truck in time I'll have to drive the Jeep
won't look forward to that since I'll have to run the milder trails with hopes of not breaking
There is nothing wrong with running the "milder" trails as the scenery is awesome everywhere. As long as your vehicle is in good mechanical condition you shouldn't have any problems with breakage.
I usually mix it up, some days/years going for the harder ones and other days/years taking the easier ones. This year I'll be doing the easier ones. GSW is about having fun and catching up with friends.
Well said

I may be able to make it this yr. If I do I could lead a trail or two. But they'll be the more scenic/milder ones since the ZJ isn't wheeled hard.
I'll know when it's closer
Would like to go this year will see if I can make it
I need to get and install a CB Antenna on my WJ for the CB I had in my old ZJ. I used Magnetic Mount Antenna's in the past and not happy with those, so I want a fixed mount but not a big whip and need to know where to get it tuned to the CB. There are no truck stops near where I am that have Antenna or tune them and the people at Radio Shack did not even know what I was talking about, so I am open for suggestions.

Ted, this unit is stupid simple to use. It comes with step by step instructions. I have one, works great.
Buy it online if they can't help you at your local store.
He's alive....Are you going to be coming out this year Sudz..? We need to meet up if you do.
I bought my antenna from a local shop that's run by comms experts - they said CB antennas are factory tuned now, there's no reason to tune on the vehicle.
I was told the same thing when I got a longer antenna.
Sup J-
GSW is a big dollar trip from the east coast. I want to mix it up a little and do something different. I have my sights set on the mountain passes in the Ouray / Telluride area.
Factory tuned CB antennas? How's that work? electronic feedback loop? I was schooled that CB signal strength is based on the grounding plane of the antenna which differs in every situation. My firestick antenna is tunable.
huh, learn something new everyday...
Just registered for GSW 2014. This will be my first time attending a jeep event.
My 2014 Overland was delivered about 3 weeks ago!
What trails do you guys recommend for me? I have been to Moab a few times but the only "trails" i have been on are Gemini Bridges and Long Canyon.
Nice, another WK2! I have one as a DD, but it will stay at home as I'm taking the ZJ out. Looking through our trail selection, anything in the easy to moderate listing so far would be good for you. Dome Plateau on Saturday would be a fun one, really neat area up there with some amazing scenery and a fun drive up Hwy 128. I would kinda tag along with recon zj if I were you, I believe he's bringing his WK2 out this year as well and is a Moab vet.
