Ok guys, I have a question hopefully someone can help me out. (A little long)

I am in the process of installing coilovers on my ZJ and ran into a little problem with the drivers side (HCU=Hydraulic Control Unit) that is located by the brake booster.

From my research it looks like it would be fine to bypass/remove the HCU since it is not used with normal braking, it is only used during antilock braking.

The jeep is 98% desert toy and is rarely used on the road, if i do use it on the road it is just to work and back which is like 5 minutes away. Do any of you see any problems removing the HCU?

In my research i found some pictures and it looks like they removed the HCU, i sent them a message on FB but no answer yet.

Search. There's a detailed how-to thread here on removing/ disabling the ABS.

Worked for me. Made mine stop better, too.

Yes you can take it off. Yes it works great. I pulled the ABS fuses (and relays), the pump, the wiring, ect. I just ran the brake lines straight to the master with some tee's for the front and an adapter for the rear. Mine is trailered but i do drive it on the street sometimes. As a sidenote I also skipped a prop valve, i get 100% to all 4 wheels, I like it better in the rocks.

Another ABS-less jeeper here. Been without it for four Colorado Winters now, ABS is for people who don't know how to drive.

I did coilovers and removed the ABS, no problems with it. I did leave in the proportioning valve though. You can see the start of my coilover swap below.

I removed mine when I went to 1 ton axles and 42" tires - replaced the brake booster for more stopping power too, with one from an F350.

All depends on what you want out of the rig. If you don't have tone rings on the axles you don't have ABS, anyway

Get yourself a f350 master and booster. Then you can stop on a dime.
