Tom mentioned this was in motion. I sent emails to my congressmen but dont hold much hope on those twits.
we need to talk to these company's about their support of this!
this is a link to the petition against the proposal to shut down public access to more than 3 million acres!

What Jeremiah said. This is a request from businesses (orchestrated by SEWER) directly to Obama for presidential decree. Calling your congressman or senator won't do a bit of good 'cause Obama wouldn't care about their input. (Obama can do whatever the hell he wants, so why even bother listening to the pesky representatives?)
Curious timing for this initiative - Obama is hopefully pre-occupied with more important matters like the fiscal cliff. Unfortunately SEWER will keep hounding Obama, sooner or later he'll have enough free cycles to think about this travesty.
It has always been a dream of mine to visit Moab. I would hate to see it disappear before I had the chance to see it. Petition signed.
Signed it. The fact that you have to register will probably prevent a lot of people from quickly signing it.
I hate to be a buzz kill, but there is no way to stop this if Obama or his handlers take notice. If its been your dream to visit Moab (for mechanized access to the trails), you have maybe 1 or 2 years to do so. I heartily recommend making plans to come out for GSW 2013, which may be the last time we'll be able to hold the event in moab. I did sign the petition, but we went through the same process under Clinton when he signed his king's decree creating the Grand Escalante National Monument in order to prevent resource extraction in a vast swath of Utah.
Signed
The only way you are going to make any difference is to get as many people to contact their congressman and even then as said above it rarely works.
Nope. Presidents are allowed to designate national monuments without any congressional input or oversite. (Congressional action is required to designate wilderness areas.) Because of this power, it's very dangerous (from a land access standpoint) to elect a Democrat to a second presidential term.
Right.... I was talking more toward regular land closers. As for this it's total bullshit and it's the tree hugging bastards trying to get around the wilderness act since it hasn't worked in the past for closing down the area. What is really funny is if it is made into a monument it will also close it down to the people who want to ride it on mountain bikes which I don't think they realize.
Does anyone have a link to the list of "participating" businesses that is in a form that's not an eye chart? I'm going to not patronize them, but I've got to be able to read the list first! I thought New Belgium Brewing was on this list (Fat Tire).
Thanks
Northface and Patagonia are a couple more.
Signed. Really unfortunate stuff here!
Signed 23,181 to go , also put it on my facebook page.
Added my own FU on Patagonias facebook page.
Well screw Miguels Baja Grill, Ekletica Cafe, Moab Coffee Roasters, Desert Bistro...
Here is the list on pirate:

Thanks for the list. I knew some of them like Camelbak, but I'm surprised at the number of Moab businesses that don't want the 4x4 dollar. That's surprising. Seems to me like they're shooting themselves in the foot.
If this goes through Moab is ghost town in 6 months after closure.
You'll still have bus loads of tourists spending 1 day at Arches. Not sure if bicyclists would be kicked out - if not, they make up a lot of visitors. I'd guess you'd cut visitor rates in half, which means many of the Moab businesses that signed the petition won't survive.
Is monument status similar to wilderness status? Some of these initiatives limit access to non-mechanized travel only, which would end mountain bike use as well.
Signed. This will suck if it happens. Agreed that many businesses that signed the petition won't make it with out the 4X4 community.
