whats up. just your basic 1ton swap. started off buying the jeep with no motor or rear axle, 600 bucks. first thing ws the 4.5 stroker from my xj and the 8.8.
used leafs in the rear because its what i had and all the control arms were gone. that caused the rear to sit at about a 6in lift. so i ordered up IRO long arm 6.5"front kit with bilstiens all around. put xj unit bearings in the front to match the rear and put on my nearly new 31"ltb's.
made my own plate bumper for the front. wheeled it once and broke the quadra-drive tcase. so in went a 231 with sye.
ran a mud run, wheeled it a bit more, SMORR, tuttle, KSrocks.
after about a year and a half i finally sold my samurai to help my jeep 'grow up'. chevy d60 and 14bolt with 4.56 and both welded. 231/300 doubler, twin sticked the 300. 4 link rear. 37in military tires. gas tank lift. surplus center ram assist.
went to disney for the shake down. it worked awesome.
woud like to get some better tires, beadlocks, shave the 14b this winter, and maybe regear. just bought a patriot head and torque tube header. still gotta get a cam. let me know what you think, questions, comments also just got a tube roller so i hope AgitatedPancake dont mind if i copy his hybrid cage a bit. that thing looks awesome and thats what i've been planning since i started this project.

Came out CLEAN, man. Looks like it took a lotta love. Great stance and height.
thanks. its been a long time coming.
I hear that. Takes loads of money, ingenuity, and time to build one of these things. Not like a damn JK where all ya gotta do is get the credit card and socket set out. I hate those things for that reason.
added some 2x6 rock sliders. i cut out the rockers up to the bottom of the doors.
also got me some 38.5x11x16 boggers on eagle alloy wheels
Any more pics of the rocker cut out process, and what wall tubing did you use? I just sold my jcr sliders to do the same thing since my rockers have rust holes. I was going to use 3x6, but yours looks really good so I may go 2x6 like you did.
looks nice man, which part of MO are you from? I'm around OP KS
I like everything but the bogers lol
The 2x6 is 3/16, the tube is 1 3/4 .120. I will post more pics later. I will tell u there is 3 layers. The outside, inside, and there is a extra in the middle. There is spray foam at each end and middle post.
I'm in nw mo. 30 mi north of st joe
sweet build man. looks like a pretty capable machine
started the cage. stole some ideas from AgitatedPancake. through the floor and the roof. lots of rolling by hand
Very very nice work on that cage! Tucked up very tight to the body everywhere, I like it
Looks real nice man. When the jeep is rolling again I wouldn't mind some collaboration on a cage lol
thanks guys. this my first cage, still a aways to go. i'll get better pics when i get it out of my tiny, 14'x24', garage.
purplezj, any time. u interested in the 8.8? also have black steel wheels, 231 sye, wj KOR tie rod bar
I'm probably getting an 8.8 from the local shop when they do the rear suspension set up for me but sounds great on the cage, maybe when it's warmer lol
a little more tonight. its raised up so i could get to the bottom welds. i plan on bending a square around the sun roof
Looks sick man, I love how it's turning out.
Dude thats sick! Are you planning on still having room for yourself and 3 passengers? Ive always like the idea of having a cage (especially with a 18 month old). I just didnt know if a good cage could be built and still maintain the room and comfort.
thats the plan. the back seat has no head room as it is so a hybrid cage was a no brainer for me. there will be a 'x' behind the front seats when its all said and done.
more progress. all thats left is to attatch the rear 4 legs and paint.
there is 3/16 plate welded between the tube and firewall. the tube is welded to the plate and landed the tube leg
fender cut out was a little off. got the other side much closer
the seats are slid forward in this pic. the cross bar lands just under the headrest
Wow. Lookin great dude.
Nice man looking great! Impressive for a first cage in my opinion, real badass.
finished, well except for bullet caps at the back. hope to be at the BMR at disney in march. come check it out if you like.
That's awesome how you put tube around the sunroof haha
