As already Indy already said you need to improve the design. Tie it into the diff if you can.

Clayton's trusses are now square tubing. But even when they were round tubing, the upper control arm mounts were in front, not on top, of the truss. On my 8.8, the truss was tied into the diff and gusseted on both sides. I'm doing something similar with my rear truss, but since I'm running air shocks, I'll be adding tubing to span the axle.

Pretty much anything completely boxed and 3/16" or better seems to work. Like IndyZJ said pirate has quite a bit

Pull the diff out. Pull the tube straight and weld it up. Add more material in the for of gussets.


If you don't want a bandaid fix. Cut it all off and build something nice. A truss doesn't need to be fancy. Just strong. Even a thick walled tube can tear. The front truss on my axle tore through a 0.188 wall 1.75" tube well gussetted.

Just do me a favour and don't buy the artec stuff. For some reason I find them ugly as sin.

well i think slick rock trail weakened it, and the final kill was playing around on some rocks. but over all just too many years of abuse. when we go wheelin!?

I needed a quick fix to get back on the trail so I had it re-enforced and added some gussets behind the rear control arms where they were cracking. I'll go snap some pictures real quick and post em up

just sanded down, rewelded, and re enforced the back. If this still cracks down the road i'll make a proper one. just got back from the snow so everythings got a little coat of rust on it already. I'd do a complete redesign of the truss sooner than later. I doubt those gussets will do enough toward fixing your problem and it's not worth losing a wheeling trip over or destroying those coil overs, driveshaft, etc. You need significantly more weld area and torsional rigidity throughout the truss/ link tower. Even something simple and cheap like some 2x3 1/4" wall rectangular tubing with a couple miter cuts would be a huge improvement from what you've got now and wouldn't cost more than $50 in materials.

How much vertical separation is there with your raised LCA mounts?

I would still tie it into the top of the diff. That significantly will reduce the "twisting" forces seen on the axle tube where the truss ripped off previously. It doesn't take that much metal to do it either.

it looks like it is tied into the top of the dif.

But those gussets wont hold up for long. That truss is WAAAY to small. I woudl cut it off and do a redesign. Shoulnd't be much work and will result in a much better perice of equipment and over all peice of mind knowing that you dont' have a time bomb in the rear.
