Don't think I'm going to have the Jeep totally back together and gears broken in by this weekend, so thinking somewhere 7/15 for a trail run. I have to work Saturday 7/14, so I can only do Sunday.
Red Cone is high on my to-do list for this summer, and I don't mind some stuff on the easier/scenic side, but am kinda drawing a blank on somewhere to go.
Thoughts?
I would go do RC again as I wanted to do more than what we accomplished on Saturday. We planned a late start. However I will not be able to make the 15th do to flying out to Seattle that morning. Have fun. FWIW it seemed all the trails in the RC, Webster area were open. Get an early start and you could run a lot.
Dave, Kim and I will be in Breck that weekend with some college friends. We're planning on doing Deer Trail to the back of Radical Hill, maybe some of the others up there on that side. The plan is to take it pretty easy, there likely will be 4 of us with my Jeep and a rental SUV of some sort, so it'll be more scenery than hardcore 'wheeling, but if you're interested in something like that let me know.
Not to Hijack this thread, but! Ken will you be doing any trails on Sat the 14th. We may want to come down in Kyles WJ and join you on Deer Trail etc. LMK
Sunday is best for Bridget and Tricia, so count us as tentative. MSV/Coney maybe? Just throwing that one out there. About the same distance as RC. Hell, if we wanted to stay really close, perhaps Spring Creek...I-70 traffic is shit even from there though.
Keith, PM me your cell number. I will see which day the group wants to go and let you know. Or maybe both days if the mountains are photogenic.
Hey Dave, I think I will be in for the 15th, just got to get a new wheel.
BTW, anyone have a 17" factory WJ wheel they are willing to part with?
So.....what are we running????
Looks like I may have a buddy from work going too - He'll meet up with us once we drop down into Bailey.
Toyota, but no squeaks. I'm not sure we can call it a 'Yota...we'll never hear him
He also offered up his pad in Bailey for brats 'n beers after the run. 2 miles off of 285 in Bailey. Who's in for that?
Strike that, reverse it. Doug had to cancel due to a family function. It's just us
I saw Tyler at the 4-Wheel Sharts show today, and he said he'll be there.
I'll text Scott.
Scott is in.
Sounds like fun. One more.
Made it back without stalling. I think it was the altitude causing the stalls. Haven't done a full tuneup in several years, so I'm sure I'm due for a cap and rotor. My Amsoil air filter may be done for too. I think I bought that from Dirk 6 years or so ago.
Good to hear you made it home. We got home to find my front pass lower marker light dangling by one of the bulb's cords. Oops! I think I scraped it right before coming out of the trees on one of those tight corners.
Looks like another storm is sitting right on top of the area now. Hopefully it's easy going for John and Tyler if they're still up there.

Should've gotten Scott there quicker at the switchback when you said you didn't want to scuff a tire...lol!
I have been home for a while. Tyler and I did Radical Hill without a hitch.
Very light rain, then it cleared up and sunny! We made our way past a bunch of Jeeps, one was being repaired, then helped spot a stock Explorer that was high sided. At the top of Radical Hill there was a heard of mountain goats, a ton of them. Too bad they were on the hillside far way.
We ran into Ken on the way out. He was just heading up with friends and was going to do St. John's and Middle St. Fork.
We made it up Deer Creek as far as the junction to Radical Hill and the rental Explorer that was with us couldn't make the last little climb. We then tried to head to Breck down the Middle Fork of the Swan, again they couldn't make the climb to the junction with Sts John. We ended up coming back down Deer Creek into Montezuma. It was a great day for a drive, and the sea level folks in the Explorer (Seattle, WA and Charlotte, NC) had a great time with the vistas.
That Exploder picked up a rock between the dust shield and rotor. Air tools are a great thing for pulling a tire off at 12,445 feet.
It had 140 miles on it when they picked it up from the rental car place at DIA.....
