Is an AX-15 swap into a WJ (4.0) roughly the same as a ZJ 4.0 AX-15 swap? Looking for write ups for the WJ and can only find ZJ write ups. If it's the same I'll be set.
Thanks.
theres a search button, you should try using it.
I did...there are two WJ manual transmission swaps that I know of and it's Agitated Pancake and iluvtruenos and that's it.
But thanks for no help at all I'll just keep reading through the countless ZJ swaps looking for someone asking how similar a WJ is.
EDIT: Thanks BigDave...I didn't post this below it because I really would like an answer for what might be different between these two concerning computers/electronics. And I really hate when you search something and there is bull shit like the above post clogging up your answer.
I know the 42RE from a ZJ won't just bolt right up to a 2002 WJ so there has to be something that needs tweaked in the newer model grand for the AX-15 to work...not too mention that early model ZJ's had an AX-15 option and the WJ never did.

Ok then how about giving us some spec's on your dub.
2002 WJ, 4.0, 42RE, 242 transfer case
Also, does anyone know what AX-15's will bolt up easier than the next? I'm going to go ahead and assume that later model AX-15's would be prime over the older models. I found 2 that were from Commanches for $100 a piece but I have no idea if that would work or not. There really isn't a lot of information out there for the WJ and this swap so sorry for the dumbass questions... I'm in the newb tech though so it's obvious I need help.
Thanks!
Edit: iluvtruenos got in contact with me. I'd say I'm set on information now...

^Sorry.
Per iluvtruenos...sorry for not cleaning it up but my lap top sucks. You get the gist of it though...finally a little bit of something to search for.
Sure np. The flywheel and clutch have to match the trans. Driveshjafts
front is 2002 and up v8 wj ujoint rear needs 3 inch extension. Tcase
can be any 242 or 231 need to make custom linkage. Xmember doesn't
need mods but you need ax trans mount and nracket. Cps is 98 and up
manual. Bolts in to trans plugs in to wj harnbess. Shiftr comes out
where ashtray is need to either run no console or hack it up.
Xj cluitch and brake pedal. Wj gas pedal. I used 91 yj internal slave
abd mastr since they"re not the premolded lines anbd can be bled.
Newer is molded plastic with wrong bends and is. A bitch to bleed. You
will need 8 or 9 ft of brake line and cuiston bend and flare a clutch
line. Get a branfd new slave if you go with internalk since they are a
bitch to relacr. Call when youy can oir want I hate to type on pjhone.
Ask AgitatedPancake. He has done this swap I believe..
Well.. AP used a toyota pedal assy and his is a 4.7. So yes it is a manual swap but not they way he is looking to do it.
Actually my pedals ended up hardly resembling the toyota stuff haha. I used the toyota brake pedal because of how I could mount the master cylinder offset to the side of the pedal itself. Without the offset the master cylinder would end up conflicting with the booster.
I'll add my pedal tech to this thread as it should transfer between 4.0 and 4.7 manual swaps
Here are hte pedals I started with. I was going to use the left (clutch) pedal, but the right )brake) pedal ended up being much better suited, you can see the tab hanging down off the hinge to the left, allowing the master to be over far.
Heres my setup with the firewall mounting plate
I used the master and slave off the same model/year dodge dakota as the transmission so it was easy to remember replacement parts
Enjoy
Looking for the same info. Did you ever get any useful info? The 4.7 swaps dont do us any good. I want trans info(ax15 or nv3550), pedal info donor vehicles etc, flywheel to crankshaft sensor, ecm info, etc. Any help would be great!
I debated about this swap in my ZJ, but now have entirely too much money tied up in rebuilding my auto trans. That and its nice to have an auto around the house in case anything happens to impare driving a manual. Other, I'd probably have the manual swap done by now, and I'm still working on the trans rebuild and shift kit install. Good info for the WJ guys in here.
PATXWJ, did you read the thread before you posted? Most of your questions are answered.
