I have been checking out MC for tech stuff and figured I would start this build thread for my most recent jeep project. 1993 5.2L Limited ZJ. Project: Tan Grand.
A little history: I had a 1990 YJ "Major Green" That I had enough of. So I parted it out. I traded a set of 5 35" MTRs (Old Style) with about 85% tread that were on Major Green for this jeep.
The jeep has been sitting for 4 years so it needed all the fluids changed and stuff. It was also pretty rusty because it was sitting down on Chincoteague island VA. It started right up with a fresh battery. The motor just crossed over 100k.
The goal of the project was to have a v8 grand on 33's with some armor.
Now on to the pics:
This is how I got it pretty much. All I have done on this pic was add the 31" AT's I had laying around
Then I removed the front bumper and cleaned up the unibody a little bit. Installed some factory front tow hooks
Then I cleaned up the front fender some. The factory paint was chipping off so instead of primer and blue I painted the hood and fender black. I also didn't like the look of the cladding so I decided to take it off.
Before
After:
Then off with the pin stripes:
I installed a factory engine skid as well. No pics for it sorry...
Then after accumulating parts for my lift including front and rear adj track bars, springs, shocks, control arms, and other stuff I finally got to lift her!
For comparison:
Wifes 97 ZJ with 3" on 32.5 with 05 grand rims
Also put the stocker tires back on. I traded the 31's for a set of 33" Km2s
After about 10 hrs on the lift It finally was done.
Then I started to play around with paint.
This past weekend I got a little bored. haha
And yes I did it in my apartment complex parking lot. They love me here.
You can see I also installed some new fog lights. I am debating If i should take my wife's roof rack for mine.
Next on the agenda is some fender trimming and boat sides. You can see the rust in this pic on the rockers. Its pretty bad. I also have a 231 out of my YJ I plan on swapping soon. That VC is on its way out.
Oh yeah... Eat shit.
nice. glad my car wasn't downwind collecting all your overspray.
that's some serious rot. keep up the good work.
Eric right? From ESJA?
Time for one tons....
Rick
Time for some boat sides man those rockers are full of cancer!
Yep.
Finally got everything together after planning the build for 3 months I think.
One step at a time though. I have a wedding coming up this summer otherwise it would have already gotten long arms and tons.
Oh yeah I know. I already have the 2x4 tubing, 2x2 tubing and tnt frame stiffeners. I just need to find the time to do it. They would have been done when we did the lift but the 10 hrs it took to install killed the time we had.
I have read a few of the builds. One of which I believe was yours. Looks straight forward.
One of the guys in the club has a 2 door xj with boatsides. He cut the door sill out and used the 2x4 as the new sill. His design was a little too high for me. I still plan on using my sills however.
mine use the stock sills and its pretty damn straight forward once you cut them open! Im with ya on the wedding thing mine is actually saturday so I wish I had more time / money to spend on the jeep lol
LOL we are going to Tenn for our honeymoon and rafting, hiking and enjoying the outdoors!
