    Hi Guys, Great site.

    I bought my first heep 3 weeks ago and stumbled across this site while looking for a little inspiration and after being back daily thought I would contribute with my new rig.
    It’s a ‘95 5.2 with 230k miles currently sitting on 31’s with a little lift. Paid $700 for it with a cracked block, I bought a junkyard motor and rebuilt it and it was back in action. Put a little money into other parts and got it running pretty good. I am currently out of town but when I return I’m going to rebuild the tranny and build and a 231 with a SYE kit. Future plans include a Rusty’s 5.5 long arm kit, home made bumpers, winch, home made sliders, and a locker maybe in an 8.8.
    Running total
    95 zj $700
    Junkyard engine $230
    Rebuild $500
    Battery $70
    Passenger side cv axel $70
    Pads and rotors $140
    Misc other $400
    Total to date $2110

    The insperation for this build came after this

    Got stuck up to the doors twice, blew a tire, destroyed a rim, lost a step, and scratched the sides, all in less that a mile

    Here's some handy info I found on wikipedia about Tcase mod #'s

    New Venture Gear transfer cases
    ManufacturerNumber of Speeds/GearsStrengthType

    NP = New Process Gear
    NV = New Venture Gear

    1 = One speed (high range)
    2 = Two speed (high and low range)

    1 (low) to 7 (high) strength

    1 = Part-time 4WD
    2 = Full-time 4WD
    3 = Electronic shift
    4 = Not currently used
    5 = Torsen-type differential
    6 = Computer controlled multi-plate wet clutch
    7 = GeroDisc
    8 = Not currently used
    9 = Viscous coupling

    Source: Sankar K. Mohan of New Venture Gear

    Ex. NV231 has 2 speeds, strength reating of 3, and part time 4WD

    yeh, the more research I do the more i'm shying away from rustys, leaning toward Iron Rock now, I’m sure I’ll talk myself into Claytons before it’s over though. I dont want to spend to much now cuz if it ever becomes a serious crawler I’ll fab up all my own stuff anyway. This is just to get me by till then.
