I was attempting to remove a front lower CA and could not hold the inner nut (last time vice grips worked well).
So I said heck with it, went to Sears and found a set of 4 ratcheting combination wrenchs (21mm, 22, 24, 25 I think) for $55 minus 10% for using my Sears card. I noticed they have a lot of tools on sale so anyone needing something might want to take a look. Also I did not look but the hand tools are usually made in USA .
Have you used the wrenches yet? Something that big in ratcheting form makes me nervous . . . I'd think that a fixed wrench would be much stronger, especially with the amount of torque that one could apply on a larger wrench.
So far the gear wrench brand have done good things for me. I've broken one 5/8's, but I swear it was a fluke thing. I can generally wrench the piss outta mine without issue. They kinda get "stuck" after using them hard, but lightly pressing back in the opposite direction pops them free, and they haven't gotten any worse.
Also I do believe they ahve a lifetime warranty. There are times where I get them on a bolt and kick them to break it loose, no problemo.
I have a flex head set of gear wrench brand in both metric and sae. I have to say I love the concept in tight areas like under the lawn mower. The flex head limits the torque I try to apply to the wrench cause I know its waiting to slip off when Im not wearing gloves.
The gear wrench does have a lifetime warranty. I just call the tool rep at the parts store that I got them from. They are great, I use them everyday. I have broken a couple of them, I am kinda hard on my tools.
I'm more of a Craftsman guy myself, but will get Gearwrench every now and then if I can't find a certain tool in Craftsman. These Jeeps definitely have the ability to test the breaking point of tools, and I have yet to brake a Craftsman socket, extension, or anything else. However, I've taken out quite a few no-name extensions, sockets, and a ratchet. Almost all of the Craftsman tools that I've seen (particularly the sockets/ratchets) are USA made, I think I have 6-pack of pliers that are from overseas though.
It's nice to have a Sears Hardware store relatively close to the house. It makes it easy to find quality tools, and gives you a place to drool over all the shiny expensive ones

Yeh watch out at Sears as they have a china built cheapie that does not come with a lifetime warranty. I think Craftsman is trademarked and any handtool with that on it is lifetime warranty. Can anyone confirm that is how they tell?
Also bought a 5 year extended warranty on my craftsman 1/2" air wrench and 4 years of droping it on the concrete it died. Went in and got a new one free. It took all of 10 minutes because they finally figured out to use my Sears card number to look up the warranty. Tools are great, salespeople are... well salespeople.
I have been turning wrenches so long I have acquired around 100k in snap-on and mac tools
Visual proof is definitely needed there

Here is a link to the pic's of my box and yse it is full of tools
You said tools... not a tool in a tool box.
haha, that's funny.
Wildman, that's a nice looking tool box you've got there. I would love to see what's inside (if only to gawk in shame and bitterness) of that bad boy.
Is that your personal shop or is it your place of business? I just cannot imagine acquiring/paying for $100K in tools!
edit: I want to see pictures of this Jeepster!
Sorry that was the day I got the box not including trade the box cost 10k
My Snap-on Verus scanner cost 15 k. Thats at my work .
I will post up pic;s of the jeepster tonight

man for 10 g's that thing better clean your tools, keep them warm and fix you dinner.
Tools are one of those things you can spend a f-ton of money on..... And still be lost in repair.
Good for you if you know how to use them. All the tools in the world wont help you if you are a shitty tech. I personally got tired of paying the 200%+ tool truck markup and buy my tools mainly at sears and home depot. Id rather spend my money on my family and my rig in that order.
im a mechanic on tractors/generators/forklifts, and agree on the cheaper tools. ive got alot of matco stuff i like, snap on too. but none of us really think the price is worth it on some stuff. most of my ratchets are matco/snap on, sockets are almost all craftsman. combo wrenches too. purposely by the cheapest air tools b/c of all humidity where we work, gets in the compressor and eats tools alive. so off to northern tool or sears for my air tools. elect power tools i dont mind paying more for, like my snap-on 18v impact, i have a 20v craftsman wrench that was less than half the price though and i like it almost as much.
buying/collecting tools is nearly a hobby in itself.
and in my experience, expensive tool boxes are the biggest rip off out there. just my opinion, and the 3 20+yr old craftsman boxes at our shop that still hold tools flawlessly.
