dayum better get some elves or something
yah this hole eye thing killed my time line. I lost about 30 hours of forward progress and it has slowed future progress since my eye sight is still jacked up. SO... yah I see some really really long days in my future.
Though it's still one inch below ride hight, it's sitting on its own weight! It's got 4.5" RE springs now, instead of the 8" SJ that were on it before.
Very sweet! and clean looking! (for now)
Jinxed myself. Im waitying on workers comp to approve an opthamologist visit right now. WTF.
I'm not sure it was addressed, but I assume some sort of comp cut is in the works for the rear?
How's your eye? Vision back and clear yet?
Yah, its been almost two weeks since I have been able to work on it.
As many of you know I opened my own shop about 6 months ago. And if any of you have ever started a new business, you know what starving is. Well about two weeks ago I had a turn in luck (A BIG ONE). I have been working nonstop since then. I am actualy making money for the first time since I opened, which is way more important right now. I am still backed up, so I won't be guiding the Jeep Jamboree eather.
But I am hoping to be cought up some time next week and will start back on it then. I have some friends coming up to the superlift park for thanks giving, so my goal is to have it done by then.
Good to hear about business! Pics of what's had you occupied for 2 weeks?
this is the only thing I took a picture of. (oh and not my style but its exactly the bumper he wanted) so... tada
I rebuilt a rock track in a JK and tore the rear axle down to inspect and reasembled it. it had a real bad grinding noise. I built the axles back in 08, and had it only had about 8K miles on it so I didn't think it could be the transfer. But the rear support bearing on the front output went out.
Then there were 10 or so small oddball jobs, like brake jobs, radiators, o2 sensors ext.
Then I build a simple little XJ bumper
I rebuilt a rear end, and set up a D44 with IRO ZJ brackets
I have a 10 bolt to rebuild, 2 XJ motors to swap out. One of which is getting an HP30/8.8 4.88, lockrites, frame plating, boat sides, bumpers, long arm and 36's. (within the next month and a half)
Then my mom called last night and wants a full replacement bumper for her Xterra.
I have a 3" XJ lift comming in next week
A YJ comming in next week that needs swaped from SOA back to SUA.
A cage to build sometime in the next 2 months in a CJ
A Chevy 350 to put into another CJ.
Another XJ to build a front winch bumper and rear tail light boxes for (97+)
That same JK is coming back tomorrow for HD rear mounts for the rear axle and I get to pull all the control arms off and regreas them with lithiam before his next outing. Then its coming back after hunting season for tube fenders and crusher corners.
I am sure there was a buch I leaft out sinse its been such a blur... And I am sure there will be a bunch of other jobs comming in. So, I am thinking about hireing someone to help out because I honestly don't think I can get it all done alone. I worked from 9am till 9:30am the following morning, went home and slept. Then came back up to the shop from 5pm till 12pm then did it again the next day! I worked about 130 hours last week.
But hay... get it while the gettin's good.
Awesome man! Glad to hear your business is boomin. Save your templates for the XJ guards and maybe you could sell them. Esp if you undercut JCR which shouldnt be too difficult.
Glad to hear your business is doing well. You do good work so if you can handle the "business" side of it you shoud be just fine. Just don't charge your mom too much for her Xterra bumper.
I'd do it for free if she would let me. She has been my backer getting started, and now she wont let me pay her back.
Any update on this?
no not yet
I am thinking of stepping back and just redoing the suspensions and putting it on coilovers. we will see though.
If you're not in a crunch for time anymore you might as well take a little longer and build it the way you want. If you're anything like me you'll end up going back and doing it the way you want in the long run anyway and then you'll have wasted your time and resources from the first time. My .02
Well as soon as I finish the "High Life" build I am working on I think I am going to strip it back down and redo it the way I want. I have been looking for a good deal on some 12" or 14" coilovers. and I think I am going to swap over to 1.25 heims. all of the suspension joints are old and need rebuilt soon. I also need to redo the steering. I really want to put assist back on it though I LOVE the full hydro offroad. Also on the wish list is a pair of ARB's so I can still drive it on the street and keep the drive flanges. I figure I can sell off my lockers the 3 sets of coils and my Full hydro for enough to buy the coilovers and a new steering system leaving me with another $3k to come up with for the lockers and heims. So for now I am saving money.
Anyone interested in buying this chassis? I am just going to scrap the hole project and build a buggy... I'll take $2500 for it, I'm keeping the atlas, axles, drive shafts, steering, suspension, and fuel cell. everything else goes with it... I'll do $2k if I keep the engine, transmission, and engine harness too.
man this would be perfect to replace my rusting body....
shipping to Canada?
