    love the build.

how much do you think all the plating will stiffen the vehicle? or is it more for building the suspension off something thicker?

It will have a nice little stubby bumper/front skid/crossmember/grill hoop thing on it. and yes I will only grow about 2"-3" out at the grill.

It's WAY stiffer than before for sure. But honestly a super stiff rig isn't king, it will just last longer. I personaly liked wheeling my unplated XJ (it was totaly gutted and unpertected, and had tons of body flex) better than my buddys plated and armored rig (that had no body flex). But my jeep only lasted one season. where as his is still perfict.

That is why the KOZ jeep didn't last eather. It was only plated from the front door to the back door. Just enough to mount the links. SO basicly the front frame horns started to push up like a durby car.

what do you think about just building a subframe for the suspension parts and transmission and tcase?

i know i say one GC in a magazine in which a guy had done that.

are you building a custom bumper for the front as well?

Go back a page or two. Someone already asked essentially the same question you did about cutting out the unibody and putting the ZJ on a subframe.

No he is asking about a sub frame like the clayton kits come with. and yes you can do that but the jeep wont hold up to really hard wheeling.

Well I just got home from the ophthalmologist. He first picked out the metal with a needle, then drilled the rust, then pollished the cornea. Hearing dremel noises in your eye is lots of fun. And now my eye REALLY herts.

Fuck. I just used a magnet to pull some steel out of my eye a few days ago, but the rust is still prevalent. Not looking forward to the drill.

Wil You be adding a winch to the jeep?

Irrigate your eye by sticking your head under the faucet as soon as you think something is in your eye.

Another reason why a utility sink and eye wash station is a good investment for your shop.

I had the exact same thing done about 2 years ago. I got the flake of metal in my eye on saturday evening and had to deal with it until Monday afternoon which was the first time I could get to the doctor. By that point...I looked like a pirate as I couldn't open my eye. I felt like I was at the dentist with the drilling, picks etc that he was using on my eye. After a couple days of blured and double vision out of that eye...I was good. And I to had safety glasses on...that were form fitted to my face.

Really looking forward to seeing how you'll maintain approach angle and attach a winch. I need ideas!

Thoes aren't exactly what I was expecting. Hell I could knock out a set of thoes in and hour or two.
    .
    .
    .

Its sitting on its own weight in the rear. The ride hight will come up another inch
when I add the coil isolaters. I still need to do some adjusting on the links and need to figure out some new shock mounts, but you get the idea.

whats the uptravel gonna be like in the rear? looks like those tires could easily rape, pillage, and murder a few things back there.

Amazing work man, very inspiring... this thread settles it, my ZJ needs boat sides.

What's left on the todo list for your target date of Oct 28?

This is a Q that was asked on Pirate and I thought you would like to here the answer.

There isn't much flex steer, but they are not as stable and dont give enough side loead support. That is why KOZ had to go with full hydro. The drag link would push the front end arround. I really hate the suspension in this jeep. But due to time, I am just setting it back up the way it was. When I tear it down again I will rebuild both suspesnions with 3/link panhard front double Tri. rear . It will also get the axle shaved like I did the XJ along with coilover/airbump or ORI's. At that time I wiould also like to ditch the full hydro and go back to assist. Once I finish the Stage II XJ Donnie and I want to do a Ultimate Adventure type trip (or actuall go on UA if we get that lucky). But I will be gathering my parts and building a new motor, so once I get everything together and get some free time I'll tear it all back down and rework the jeep how "I WANT IT". After tearing this jeep down and really looking at what KOZ did, I can see that they were very rushed and kinda through tuff together so there has been alot that I have to re-engineer.
    .
    .
    .
    .
Got the coil mounts started, still need to finsh the bump stops but I need the tires for that and they are still being dismounted. SO... tomorrow when I get them back I will mount up the beadocks and finsh the bumpstops. Then Fri. I will finsh cutting the driver rear quarter, leaving me with the weekend to build the inner fenders, front bumper, finsh the boatsides, build my new rear shock moutns and bumpstops, and then pull the drive train back out so I can paint everything and put the new seals in the motor.

I'd never have a full body rig without them.

    finish front coil mounts/bumpstops
build new rear shock mounts & bumpstops
    adjust front and rear suspensions
    mount anti-rock
    mount limit straps
    finish boat sides
    build front bumper
    modify front fenders
    build cage
    build rear bumper
    cut driver side rear fender
    built rear fender wells
    build tranny mount
    mount beadlocks
modify fuel cell for stock pump
    run fuel lines
    mount fuel cell
    mount cargo box
    cooler mount
    run brake lines
    install new MS
remove drive train for paint and intall gaskets
    wire fans/winch/relocate batt.
mount orbital/ PS cooler/ PS pump/ hydro lines
    reinstall engin/trans/transfer
finish what ever little mics welding needs done
    pop the diffs and inspect/clean/refill
    fill engine/trans/tranfer
fill and bleed brakes and hydro
    re-install AC sys.

then button up what ever else is not done, test it all out, and hall ass the to offroad park!
