8 hours of welding
1 bottle of argon
14 lbs of wire.
1 welding tip
1 hood screen
1 crawl mag hoodie
1 pair of socks
100 spater burns
1 very sore back
And the plating is all welded in.
Is there a strategy behind the placement of the holes in the plates? Or are you just playing it by ear?
Looks awesome, a shit ton of work, but phenominal.
What's your estimate on the weight of all this extra plate?
^ I was thinking the same thing?
Looks good though. Heavy, but good.
Also, are you planning on keeping this thing street legal with doors and all? If no doors, I was just curious as to why you didn't go any higher with the boatsides since it seems this is going to be built like a buggy....?
place them where they will sit flush to the existing frame rail and not over existing frame holes
No... Normal amount of work in a super short amount of time. I am not liking this 16-20 hour days. I run my shop 9-5 then knock off and start on this till 1am-2am then sleep a few hours and repeat.
all the plating welded on waighs less than 300lbs. I am guessing 200 is a more realistic number. My XJ plates weigh less than 150lbs. and the only added plating on this one was the 1/8" in the engine bay, and the 3/16" boat sides wrather than 1/8".
yes it will be my weekend/DD rig. I have a BMW that I normaly drive but will use this as advertisemnt for my shop. Eventualy like all rigs it will get beat down and I'll strip it to build something else. Its a revolving cycle.

Engine/trans/transfer in for mockup.
radiator all welded up and fitting nicly
ribs for the boatsides
cut slits to weld the ribs to the boatsides
boat sides on.
this is why I put the plate to the inside of the rocker
That makes sense. Thanks.
extremely well thought out. Nice work.
Well I worked a little late so I didn't get as much time to work on the jeep as I wanted.
I spent 4 fucking hours on the damn front plates for the boat sides. They were a pain in the ass.

Then I cleaned up a little and rolled the front axle under the jeep. It too was a pain in the ass... Actualy everything has been a PAIN IN THE ASS. I am building this SOLO. Which for most guys is fine, but when you are 6ft, and only weigh 125 lbs. It's pretty damn hard. Thankfully thats 125lbs of muscle since I have like 1% body fat. But I am still scrawny.
....Any ways onto more pics.
I will not be using the H2 wheels, so the width will be about 2" wider than what you see. since my bead locks are 17x8.5 4.5BS. I just need to get them mounted up.
Is this ride height?
no full bump
Lanky Mother Fucker
I like!
Man those boat sides are slick. Gonna skin them with some UHMW? Are you using a CNC plasma to cut all your stuff or free handing it?
Very good work dude! I like that you are keeping the header panel, grille, lights, etc all original width. I'm excited to see how long that lasts on the trails.
You should take some time off your build and eat some food. Jesus christ.
you matt and Tyler should maybe get dinner together

HAHA I didn't know there were so many of us! I'm 5'11" and 140lbs.
Christ! I bet you fawkers can eat whatever you want without gaining any weight too.
damn i feel fucking fat 6'8 280 lol build looks sick i love the boat sides!!!
I think its just a ZJ thing
I burned my retina so work was slow going. But I did get the axle in and mounted. Along with the skid plate modified and mounted.
the axle on this jeep is 3 inches further frorward then the other one. I plan to find another front fender to hack up so I can move the front of the flare forward a few inches.
this is how the cuts on the skid looked before.
