so i have a full tank of gas. the pump just died.

anyone just cut a hole in the trunk area and changed it out. i think i'll cut a little access hole and then make a cover. i did it to my old toyota pickup.

i searched to see if there was anyone else as redneck as me. i didn't find anyone else who had tried it.

well at least i have all new parts in my jeep except the computer. maybe that'll be next

I did it in 2007 and never bothered to patch up the hole. And I even used a cold chisel to do the whole job. 3 months later I cut the back end of the rig off behind the front seats, and life has been uphill from there

i'm not a big fan of external pumps. i've had 3 die on my old waggy in less then a month. it was even a brand new (chevy suburban) tank and two fuel filters.

i ordered a new one off epay. it should be here monday.

cool there are some measurements. i should be golden once this damn thing is out.

lift and tires next??? or will something else break??

I'm afraid to even touch my engine for fear what I will find needs replaced. The thing runs and doesn't stall (I bet I just jinxed myself), so I'm just going to hammer down until the rods start flying!

I cut a hole when I did my gas tank lift. I just used a piece of sheet metal over the top of it and used automotive seam sealer to hold it in place. I just replaced a pump a few months ago. I just used a chisel and a hammer to get the cover off. I didn't want any fancy fastening method incase I had to change it on the trail (I did), and It worked great. I just got it back to camp and sealed it that night again.
I'm still waiting on the inexpensive shit to break!!!

who knows what the previous owner did to this thing. i'd like to beat him down.

it just started with a simple radiator swap. then everything else decided since their friend just died, they should all follow suit. hopefully the new groupl of parts will stay friends for another 132K and let the old jeep just run.

Definitely. I've refused to deal with the massive oil leak/ consumption for a looong time on my ZJ because I have the feeling I'll be replacing almost every gasket in the engine, the entire ignition system, etc. Between the rear main seal and the intake manifold gasket, it was going through at least a quart of oil a month. Unfortunately it's pretty much sat for over a year because of time/ funds going other directions

that makes me feel good since my oil pan gasket and rear main seal are still waiting for me to install them. i can't work on my jeep at the apartment complex i live at.

i just have to endure 1 year at this damn place so i can find somewhere with a garage to rent for a lot less money.

well. the pump came today from UPS (United Parcel SMASHERS!)

    its broken.

since its broken, and i'll be getting a refund. i see i can fit a Walbro intank fuel pump in the cage. i can get one of those locally for a decent price.

maybe tomorrow i can drive my jeep again. or the next day.

Couldn't you just run to the local auto parts store and pick up the fuel pump?
