Anyone in WA, OR, Northern or Central California interested?

I am located in Seattle, WA and will head down I-5 on May 22nd, making a stop in Paradises, CA for nephews Graduation Party, then on to Sacramento on the 24th.

From Sacramento I will go to the Loon Lake Staging Area for the Rubicon Trail, but the date for that is kind of open from the 25th through the 29th for starting the Rubicon Trail Run. If there are no other grands to run with I will join up and tag along with any group that will have me.

After completing the Rubicon Trail Run, I will head out to Moab, UT for GSW arriving not latter then June 3, 2010.

I would be happy to meet up with any other grands that would like to run the Rubicon Trail durng this time frame and it would be icing on the cake if they were also headed to GSW.

If interested drop me a PM or email at mochisme@yahoo.com

Why not play it safe and run the Rubicon on the way home Ted? I know people who did what you're planning in years past on their way to GSW or the week prior and they never made it to GSW because of issues caused during the Rubicon run. A few of us remember Nate Cannon in particular who finally did make it in later years. Something to consider unless your schedule is inflexible.

Also keep an eye out on the Eldorado National Forest Site. I was wheeling this weekend up in the area, and we still have 4-5' of snow at about 6,000', so it might still be somewhat of a snow run thru Memorial Day.

Good luck on the long haul, wish I had the time!

LOL That was my plan last year Sandy... And on the last Obstacle (Area BFE at the end of the Sunday run) I screwed up my steering. Not sure just what, but my steering wheel was 90 degrees off center. No one through it was too bad, and I was trailering, but did not wish to risk it OT he Rubicon.

Got home found out they were closing some of my local trails that I had not yet run in two days, so I headed out that same after noon. Drove in about 1/2 mile, Oops, no steering!!! About an hour of jury rigging with a ratchet strap and I was able to steer enough to get me back to the parking area and the trailer.

This is why I now trailer my rig rather then driving it to the trails.

My schedule is some what flexible, but I have some what committed to family visits going both ways. Nephew's College Graduation in CA on the 23, Rubicon sometime between the 25th and 1st, then Moab the 3rd, GSW, Play around for another week at Moab, then visit family in Salt Lake City and Ogden on the way home.

I could reverse the order and only miss the Graduation, but still stop and see the Nephew on the way home. Something to think about with the snow report for the Rubicon that was brought up. Will have to check into that not later then Monday so I can change plans if needed.

    Thanks everyone for the input.

Thanks for the heads up on this. With everything I had read and "GLOBAL WARMING" I thought the last week of May would be good to go. I will call the Ranger District Office Monday and see what they have to say.

np man .... here is rubicon last week .. and we are currently getting snow right now ..

Loon lake is still frozen and from what i hear, it is very difficult to even get to the tahoe staging area, so its going to be even worse further west of there. That is a long way to go only to be turned back. Here is a pic of the wentworth access point last week-- WTF? And this is only the access road, not even the rocky section of the trail. My plans are to head up to the FOBR/HR Black Rock Rendezvous. We've had a really wet spring and that = deep snow and mud and mud is bad because the anti-access folks are using particulate counts to support efforts to restrict future access to rubicon because that silt clogs up downstream systems. For this same reason over 100 years ago they banned hydro mining in the foot hills, such as malokoff diggins near nevada city..

here is a reason not to cross the water on 'dice unless you know exactly the CFM, etc. This can ruin ur day pretty fast...

I would be down for swinging a rubicon trip in mid june ... hopefully there shouldn't be much snow by then.
