Went wheeling up at browns camp last saturday. Been a while since the last one, hadn't tried out the new bumper or anything yet. Has a blast! Its been raining on and off here for the past few days so its nice and sloppy up there. I have to say this was one of my favorite wheeling trips ive taken, challenging, and never really easy. I has my tires at around 30 psi, and then aired them to 17, and it was almost a cake walk from there. The all-terrains did alright, definitely were lacking that thick mud that oregon has to offer/the northwest in general. We ended up running into a couple toyotas that were looking for trail firebreaker five (known trail at browns camp for you locals), and they ended up helping us out a ton. Really nice guys, not in a rush or anything, they had 38.5 iroks on one, and then super swampers up front and boggers in the back with a twin speed transfercase. Pretty neat. I was the short stick on this trip, but it made it more fun following with the big guys. Anyways, if I have anything else to say, ill think of it by the end of the pictures. Enjoy!
Me and lloyd (real name is austin but i call him lloyd)
Where it all started.. firebreaker five
Attempting to go on the left route the first time..
Didnt work, so i tried the right route
That didnt work either.. lol so i tried the left side again.. but this time i got stuck multiple times. Got hung up on my rear diff, and couldnt go forward or backward, had the yota pull me back so i could try again.
Me
I eventually got pulled back, and then took a wammy at it again with more gas and momentum and i made it up. I was determined to say the least lol. No pictures though
Heres another yota that was with us
Rock garden, the 4runner with the dual speed transfercase
Me just flexing, i aint doing that **** lol
North end of the crushers, way too sloppy up there for any of us to attempt
This one was fun, going down hill, pictures dont do justice, i had a rear tire in the air at one point
Him coming down the hill we just went down
Going up hogs back, pretty gnarly trail
Super muddy logging road that will be open for a short while..
looks like a blast man
Nice work and really good pics. I'd love to hit some trails like that.
Nice pics, looks like a good time. How long did it take to get that thing shined up to the typical MoonyJohn standard? Lol.
Thanks guys.. i just took it to a car wash, seemed to work just fine. For now lol
Did something today, still working on it, tomorrow atleast will be finishing day.
Heres the start, i cut out the tub from the top, shoulda done it from the bottom so it would come out easier, but whatever. lol
Had a lot of prying, and bending to get the SOB out
Unbolted one side, then took the lines out of the hole
Took the bumper off, tow hitch off and unplugged
Now its hanging freely
Then unbolted the exhaust heat shield
This is where im at now
Dropped the tank
Next step is to cut off the mounting plates, giving the skid something to be welded to.
Safety is awareness (says that on the back of my shirt, in which you cannot see..)
One side cut
Mounted back on the 'frame'
Other side mounted
Cut the rest of the tub
Skid ready to be welded
In its position
Getting it lined up
Thats all for now, the tank is in and the skid is all welded up, now I just need to get some new hoses cause i cut them too short, dont know why but i thought you had to. Guess not. I got the hole drilled on the frame, and the hoses through they are just too short thats all, otherwise id be done. Also have to mount the tow hitch WITH the skid at the same time, which is impossible by yourself so you must get someone else to help you. More status updates tomorrow as i finish.
jeep is looking very cool
Got it finished
And an overall picture of how it sits today
The good: Your jeep is coming along nicely and its always so clean. Also that first generation sky blue yota is the definition of clean rig I love it.
The bad: All terrains bring the suck- I hated mine prolly like your starting to hate yours. I see a puff of blue smoke in a few of those pics coming from your jeep.
Thanks man, i like a clean dd and then getting it dirtsy later. And yeah, the bfg a/t's definitely brought the suck on tht trip. Aired them down to 17 psi and they still were slipping a lot. Im now saving up for a set of 35's, either the km2's, kevlars (most expensive and least probable of getting), or some maxxis bighorns. I would get 5 tires, and get 1 more rim and then sell my bfgs on craigs to make up a big portion of that money. After 35's, ill start looking at either gears, or a rear bumper to carry the spare.. but those are the main things to get done here.
As for the blue smoke, my jeep has 209k miles, and its burning oil. Thats the only issue with the jeep, knock on wood.
Got my winch mounted yesterday, and put my snowboard rack on today for this years winter season..
Looks good, snowboarding=awesome i bet you all have some great places to go
Man I miss that mud, I used to live in Lake Oswego, good times. Nice lookin jeep!
Thanks man! We do have a couple places to choose from. We got Mt. Hood, and then Mt. Bachelor, but this will be my first year snowboarding, so im stoked to be able to make it up to the mountain every weekend after work, and enjoy some nice powder.
Yeah, its nice and sloppy isnt it? Not like clay, but its not soupy either. How long ago did you move? Would have I seen you around?
On a side note, my CEL came on and it showed the code PO420, which is either bad exhaust, or a rear o2 sensor from what I understand. I do have a cut off exhaust? Could this be something causing the problem? If not, it could be the 210k mile old rear o2 sensor.
i graduated in 2005, good times 05 haha. Yea there's def alot of slop up there. I live Carson City, Nevada now, right by Reno. The wheelin down here is completely different from up there. I was used to muddin and now I have to build my jeep to handle more rocks. Its new to me but I like it. Keep up the good work with the jeep. I wish I had some coin to dump in my zj... Its hard though with the wife and kids, oh well, I'll get my goodies some day.

I've been looking at these XRC 8 winches for a while now. It appears that this is rope, correct? Did you buy it that way or switch it out?
Have you used it yet? If so, performed well?
Can't beat the $299 price for one, that's for sure!
i have one on mine, and it sounds like a dieing cat, but it definately gets the job done, i also swapped mine out for the synthetic rope, much safer and took prolly 10-15 lbs.(im not good at weight guesses) off the front of my zj.
Haha, i actually wish I had rocks to wheel around. Here, its just pointy bolders that just fuck your jeep up, i want smooth rocks that are slick like moab or something. But, ill be going down to gsw next year so that will be a blast.
This winch was 450, i had it shipped to a local 4wheelparts, and it showed up in a day. Very happy about that. It has the synthetic line with it, but thats the price difference between the 299 an the 450. Well worth the extra 150. I havent used it yet, but im going wheeling this weekend, so ill tell you afterwards
Whens the so called flares comin?
looks great!
No fuckin clue, have not heard a squeak about it ever since i got off the phone with him. I understand he is a one man business, but, i am part of his business and expect him to atleast EMAIL me back at least. I emailed him 2 times, and called him 2 times with messages saying who i was and my email, still nothing. wtf
Looks good man . I love to get out there and do some wheelin with ya . have you installed any lockers in it ?
Hells yeah man, can always use more wheeling people. We had 7 on our last trip and it wasnt too big at all. I have wheeling pics, all posted on my jf build thread. There are 120 pics, but on this thread ill post my wj pics i guess
All of our rigs.. 1 F&R Locked YJ, 2 Locked Yoters, 1 F&R Locked LJ, 2 WJs w/o lockers, 1 F&R locked Cherokee
