Fuck Ya! That has to be the cleanest dove nose I've seen, and I usually hate how they look.
Time for matching dovetail?
Hahaha I hope none of that ever happens, but it it does, that will be the sequence of events.
I have thought alot about a dovetail, If I went that route, I would try to keep the front doors, and create a two door two seater, ditch the back seats and cargo space, and tube the fawk out of the back end. I really like the idea of having a lockable, weatherproof, comfy cab. I really enjoy DD'ing the jeep.
Damn man I'm really impressed how that turned out.
I really like the tube lines. Looking forward to seeing the finished product!
just so you know "Nylatron" is a trade name for Nylon.
if you want more specs on the product search nylon and you wont get filled with one companies propaganda.
tube work looks bad ass. and yes Nylon woudl be a better choice then UHMW. UHMW is abbration resistant to some materials better than others. the threads on the tube body will chew UHMW up fast. nylon is much harder and will survive better. if you want a good product look at Redwood Plastics Tuffcast.
Little update, the 350 ford I was looking at, is now going to be parted out. I have a chance to get the BJ 60 for 300 bucks. shafts, brakes, the works. Do I do it? I know I want kingpins, and I'm thinking of SLOWLY building the axle, SOLID C's and Reid knuckles, MAYBE RCV's, but is this a deal for a good starting platform?
So 300 for a complete BJ60 deal or no deal?
I honestly wouldn't hesitate to run a BJ 60. It should be more than enough for what we do with our rigs.
I would pull the trigger man.
I wouldnt hesitate either. I don't REALLY hear about them breaking often, mostly just the theory of it that I see
It's decided, getting the 60 for $300. I am also pretty much decided on SOLID Kingpin knuckles, HS, and inner C's. High steer on a BJ axle isn't ALOT cheaper, and will never be close to as strong as the SOLID knuckles. Tons will be a lengthy build up though.
As of late, I haven't had much time to get a lot done, holidays + retail job = hell.
Actually started it for a second today, just cause. I guess a fuel line got smashed when the engine shifted in the wreck, it dumped a bit of fuel on the floor, I wish I'd known the line needed replaced before I put a frame rail in the way, would have made replacing that a lot easier.
Since the last update:
Steering built
trackbar built, along with both mounts
Dis assembled most of the front end, painted, re-assembled.
Battery box mounted (squeezed it in up front, saved a pile of money in thick AWG, and time)
All new 2 AWG battery cables, mil spec terminals.
Upper coil over mounts re-done, so far the only thing to be re-done.
passenger side bolt-in inner fender done, the driver side will be even easier.
Limit straps for rear are finally mounted. Needed those for a while.
To be bought/built:
New longer brakelines
Headlight tabs
tabs to mount tranny cooler
SYE for 242
steering wheel and quick connect
hood pins and mounts
extend front driveshaft 3-4" (again)
Build driver inner fender
Buy/build aluminum fender skins
figure a spot for the coilover reservoirs
bolt in coilovers, adjust for ride height
Bolt in winch, wire winch, spool cable.
D ring recovery tabs need to be welded on the front.
And that's about all I can come up with, but I'm sure there is more.
Some weak pictures.
that inner fender is bad ASS man, Props all around it's coming out great!
Nice job on the laminated coilover hoop bracing...
Damn that's a polished turdy
Man. That is some clean shit! Very impressive!
It's all about the little details. I wondered if anyone would notice . I have a few pieces laminated and quite a few scattered weld washers and fish plates too.
Yes, the 30 is polished, but it has been worth is so far, not a lot of cost in materials, and hopefully I can copy alot of it and duplicate measurements onto the 60. It has to hold up for another year or so.
Thanks Greg and Tyler.
Damn every time I look at this i'm more impressed.
Thanks man. The feeling is reciprocated. Your ZJ is definitely impressive to me.
Just went back out and leaned the shop up a bit, and started investigating my fuel leak. Its pissing fuel out at the Pressure Regulator on the rail. Never had that problem before.
Anybody have this fail? Can I just replace the O rings? A new regulator is definitely not cheap for it's size.
Hey Neil do you have any more pics of how you did your motor mounts? I have been trying to get an idea of how Im gonna do mine in the XJ when I do the engine swap.
This is all I have at the moment. 1/4" plate bolts to the block in four locations, one of which is parallel with the block. The tabs are 3/8". overkill, but I didn't want to have to worry about them.
Sweet looking plates. Makes your motor look filthy though.
Should spray the plate with mud... Match it up a little.
Beautiful work.
At the risk of being the 'weld nazi' i'm going to go ahead and say those bottom two beads don't look that great.
